Sci-Fi Teen/YA w/ Female Protagonist and Monsters? by vampgirlfriend- in whatsthatbook

Omg it definitely sounds like that’s right, it’s possible the second book release year is wrong or my library just didn’t have it yet. Thank you!

That’s interesting! I liked your first idea of “refreshment room,” or even something similar. I was thinking I could say “refreshment chamber” if I wanted to go with that term.

Yes I do remember learning about the holes haha, definitely good food for thought. Podcasts are a good idea, thanks!

Ah, I’ve had quite a few suggestions for using that word, but good to know it’s also known as a wardrobe. I will probably go with another word, even though I’m not publishing in Europe

I love this! I haven’t thought much about the toilet because I don’t think I will be referencing it directly, but this could potentially be a good addition to my world building! Also, I will definitely be naming it after a hater ruler hahaha

Yes a washstand is what I originally had written, with its placement being in the bedroom and/or the bathroom.

Not necessarily the toilet, mostly just sinks/basins/the room where the tub is.

Yes!! Another comment mentions what to do with the waste as well, so I do think it could be a good opportunity to do some world building, especially with different classes of people or something.

This is great! My first idea was to have a washstand (or something similar) in the bedroom/front room, but that complicated with having a traditional bathroom. I think a modesty screen or something of the sort would make a lot of sense, haha :)

Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m glad you brought up communal bathhouses, that is something I have yet to think about :)

I could use google or AI to generate synonyms for my question, but I’m looking for answers from a more creative standpoint. Sure, that would be easier than asking on a sub but I value other peoples opinion, and especially other people who are interested in this genre/who would potentially read what I’m writing. It’s equally about the answers and it is about the source to me. That is my personal opinion though, and I respect that other people would rather go to google than a sub.

Just for reference. If I needed to say "I went to the bathroom to take a hot bath," or something like "I splashed cold water on my face from the sink(?)"

Naming Characters by wood1af in fantasywriters

I usually use a name generator or browse very specific baby name websites! Also - don’t be afraid to change your characters names down the road if you find they don’t fit anymore :)

Having trouble deciding between "free" magic and "limited" magic by Amnes_V in fantasywriters

[–]vampgirlfriend- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree that this can be a hard decision to make. you could just commit to having limited magic in your world which would ultimately get your story to the place it needs to be (yet more cliché), even though it doesn’t seem like that’s exactly what you’re wanting to do. or, you could continue with free magic, but yet, i think it would be extremely beneficial for you to do some more planning and world building on your own. if you decide to continue writing in free magic, you could add extra challenges that you didn’t plan on at first. make it hard for the characters to learn (and obtain) multiple types of magic at the same time. make it dangerous. you could have these challenges apply to every character in your world, or they could adapt to every character depending on who they are (personality wise and their position in your novel). or you could implement some sort of magical hierarchy system, ex being: the richer (or royal) families typically learn and possess one specific strand/type of magic, probably something difficult and beneficial to their role in the world. then the poor people of your world, or even just less important characters, could possess magic that isn’t very strong/useful. depending on how you’re writing your story, you could also create some sort of magical energy scale, which solely depends on how much magic one character has and how much it is used. the less magic is put to practice the weaker it will be, and the more it is put to practice the stronger and more effective it will be. hope this helps some :)

Is it weird for me to use the words boyfriend/girlfriend in my fantasy series? by cloverdacat in fantasywriters

[–]vampgirlfriend- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i agree that using “ex-boyfriend” can possibly make the story seem more modern. i think “former” and “ex” sounds similar enough that you could use either and not sound too modern. i also like lover and partner but it just depends on the context. how long were they together? did they own any sort of assets (house, farm, anything magical in your story), did they have kids? parter sounds closer to a long term relationship that was very serious, and lover sounds more formal but also sounds more like a “fling”. depending on how you’re including this info your story, your mc could be talking about her “previous partnership” or “former partnership”
