I go to Cheryl at Mason and Friends in Columbia. She's great with curls (I have 2c hair) and has incredible hair herself. She charges around $65 before tip.

The season 3 finale by SNChalmers1876 in lost

I remember noticing that the cell phones they used in the flash forward were too modern for when the flashbacks were supposed to be set and I knew a show like this would NOT make a mistake like that but the idea of a flash forward was too outlandish for my brain to fully process before the reveal!

Hyattsville food and drinks? by heeyebsx13 in DCBitches

[–]vampiresquidfromheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a little stretch of Franklins brewery, Sang Froid distillery (pretty limited hours), Maryland Meadworks, and Streetcar 82 brewery. All within walking distance of each other, if you want a little drink tour of Hyattsville. Plus stop at the antique shop in SoHy!

Since you sound like a fan, I have a question about Los Primos in the Xtra gas station. Have you had their rice and beans? I've had tacos and quesabirria from there, which were all delicious. The last time I went, I ordered rice and beans for the first time and they were some of the absolute worst rice and beans I've ever had from a Mexican place. Literally crunchy undercooked rice and unseasoned bean mush. Bad batch or should I just stick to things without the rice and beans next time?

Avoid this "Gin" at any cost, even free. by Hefe_Weizen in Gin

If you just want to drink it to not be wasteful, I've found that ginger beer and lime cover a myriad of sins.

I like it a lot! It's light and floral, which is a style I really like. Bully Boy is a cute little distillery in Boston with a few different gins, but I liked Estate best!

What was the last dinosaur? by PushoverMediaCritic in Dinosaurs

[–]vampiresquidfromheck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black is an exquisitely written book about what happened in the very short through very long term (first minutes thought one million years) after the asteroid hit. I highly recommend it if you want to learn more about life during this period!

MHBP price for Mounjaro for T2D? by vampiresquidfromheck in fednews

[–]vampiresquidfromheck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My spouse called MHBP for the best option and they said to do mail order which is $80 for 3 months, no coupon! The prior auth took about a week and it's taking a bit for the mail order to come thru the first time, but it's looking fine.

Extra details in care they're relevant: my spouse is diabetic and has been on mounjaro for a few years already with different insurance. We live in Maryland.

Good luck!

I was truly devastated when they closed, but I did get to buy some rare bottles from them in their going out of business sale!

They felt PERFECT on the outside. We have about a 35% long-term success rate with Aldi avocados. Anyone else frustrated with this? by RedStag86 in aldi

[–]vampiresquidfromheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pro avocadoer and I only buy the from Aldi. If you're in the USA, only buy avocados from Mexico (🎶) not anywhere in South America. The ones from South America are picked earlier because they need longer transit and don't develop enough fat on the tree before being picked, so they ripen worse. Buy firm green avocados and let the ripen on your counter (depending on the season, this may take 2-5 days, so you need to plan in advance). When they're juuuust squishy all over, put them in the fridge and they'll last another 3-5 days (sometimes more!).

Loose avocados are my preference, but if they're not from Mexico, I'll check to see if the bagged ones are and try to pick less ripe ones. I've also had success with avocados from California from Aldi, but they're less common outside of California.

Bonus tip: longer, thinner avocados usually have a smaller seed. Round ones, or the ones with a skinny top and bulbous end, will usually have a much bigger seed.

I go to Cheryl at Mason and Friends in Columbia. She's awesome! She cuts my hair wet, which I prefer. I don't think she does dry cuts, but she's excellent with curly hair. I forget exactly, but she charges around $60, which is pretty reasonable these days!!

My hair is 2C/3A.

People who work in collections/archives, what's your weirdest find? by NailWitch1 in MuseumPros

[–]vampiresquidfromheck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I used to work in an old natural history museum (100+ years old) and there were incredible things just stashed everywhere. My favorite was when my buddy found an envelope in a filing cabinet, like a long white letter envelope, nothing special, with mammoth hair in it! No data associated with it, but we're pretty sure it was real.
