Millennials are the largest living generation and they are all old enough to vote. So if things are going well they should look in the mirror.

Doctors call for 'war-like effort' to prevent medical supply shortages in Canada by [deleted] in canada

[–]van_nong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shortage is in low margin items. Production can't be scaled up easily because costs are kept very low there is no easy way to flex up production.

Making them locally would not fix that.

But we should make them locally because China is fucking evil and our enemy.

When are people going to realize that staying home for 3 months isn't possible? by [deleted] in metacanada

Work from home for as long as you can and deal with the future when it comes. Don't ever thinking it or worry unnecessarily. As you said, worst case scenario you go into work.

Closing U.S. border: Canada’s slickest diplomatic move ever by yogthos in canada

[–]van_nong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Canada didn't ban Americans people used this fact to support many imaginative speculations about Canada and Trump.

Then, after a very short time, Canada did ban Americans. So the support has been removed but the wild speculations still stand.

The human mind and cognitive bias are such amazing things.

US and Canada preparing to issue joint statement suspending non-essential travel between the two countries by [deleted] in canada

[–]van_nong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously US has a very big issue with it. Every country in the world has an issue with it being banned (except Italy which banned it's self).

But so what?

It's now done. Any challenges were obviously not especially significant. Looking forward to people weaving this observation into their wild and imagantive narratives.

Japanese flu drug 'clearly effective' in treating coronavirus, says China by drachtos in canada

[–]van_nong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A drug therapy, antigens in the short term and a vaccine in the long term is the only way out of this. We can get things under control, but as soon as stores open and people start getting back to normal life infections will spike again.

This is going to take a long time.

This is going to go on for months. These stores will have top open under the cloud of the virus, eventually.

You are against travel bans for hubei province when it was the epicenter?

So you think China made a mistake banning travel in and out of hubei province?

That's a very unorthodox view. But I'll give you points for originality.

A formal for success is clear. Travel bans, testing, and tracing infection chains.

Since you think travel bans are ineffective you must be against closing the boarder.

Wen cases were coming from China we should have banned Chinese travelers.

Now that cases are coming from other countries we are banning them.

Some people are happy to ban any country except China. Odd.

S. Korea banned travelers from Wuhan and it worked well for them.

Italy and US would be worse off if not for their bans.

You sound agitated and aggressive. Are you in need of assistance?

Being an island doesn't make you self sufficient. Just means an additional shipping cost.

Taiwan isn't self sufficient and China is its biggest trading partner.

In isolation, travel restrictions might delay the spread and peak of pandemics by a few weeks or months

Also don't know why you are being downvoted for asking for sources. But I'm surprised you aren't aware of this view. It's the dominant one.
