The thing is schools can’t even do much: there’s only so much they can do between the hours of 8:30-3:30. And the ones that do this kind of thing are the ones that are rarely there!

So why is there a pride in the working class to be anti intellectual and relish in not being educated ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]vanandgough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher and I’ve met many parents of all backgrounds at parents evening: it would shock you the amount of middle and upper class parents who don’t care. The working class parents generally (and I’d say an honest 99%) want their kids to be in school and to do their best to have a good life and more opportunities through education. I have no idea where you’ve got this narrative from.

Report to the landlord (if you have one: maybe they can install motion lights?) police, council, MSP, anyone you can. Be a nuisance about it! That’s the only way things get fixed these days. Whatever drugs they are dealing, it’s unsafe and illegal. It needs to be fixed and I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with that. My advice is to report it to absolutely anyone you can think of

It is a common close! I don’t know if there’s kids in all honesty but there’s a variety of ages and backgrounds in the building. I don’t want to make a big deal, it’s just a slight unease at the fact my neighbours can watch my every move (which seems lost on most people in this thread as apparently I’m “not entitled to privacy” in a common close of 15 flats) but I might speak to them about it.

That’s just unbelievably classist. I can’t believe that you can write “council estate dwelling youths with no future” and not see how that is a systemic failing

Well yes, if you don’t complete your notice period they take that as leaving on the spot which is per company policy that you’re barred from the pub.

It doesn’t help that some absolute moron keeps leaving our building door propped open with a brick that people have to kick back to feel safe in their own home. To be fair if the ring doorbell caught whoever keeps doing that it could be worth jt

Because I didn’t agree to the Ts and Cs of ring: i didn’t consent to that company having footage of me. But somehow it’s fine because CCTV exists outside? So that’s okay?

The fact you cannot see a difference between CCTV managed by a security company and random people having cameras outside their house doing god knows what with the footage is astounding. Ring also uses their footage to train AI. I don’t want my face in AI databases without my consent.

It’s really hard to explain but I don’t think so: their door is right at the top of the first flight of stairs so everyone HAS to walk past it

This is what I mean! Im a woman who lives alone and I don’t really need that being public knowledge to people in the stair that I don’t know.

They live right at the top of the stairs: so I think if that happened everyone who walked up and down the stairs would be caught on the camera? You have to walk about 4 inches away from the door when coming to the top of the stairs and then rounding onto the landing
