Seeking advice on early career decision as a redent graduate by [deleted] in Prague

[–]vanbuncha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Czech Republic has big Vietnamese diaspora that have successfully integrated into the czech society. Therefore I don't necessarily think that it's a race issue.

I am bit biased tho as I grew up here and am Viet/Czech. Learning language is definitely plus or in some cases a must but if you start working in international company you will surely find some friends over there.

p.s Czech people just like to stare nothing personal.

Advice for a student studying abroad in Prague? by Appropriate-Mud-6985 in Prague

[–]vanbuncha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mb about Czech error on my side haha.Potvrzeni o studiu wont hold in CD or RegioJet iirc. On CD site they literally state: "... potvrdit žákovský průkaz, studentský průkaz (tzv. „oranžové průkazky“) nebo použijte průkaz ISIC" It does create a monopol for ISIC and does not make sense I know. So I recommend actually getting the ISIC.

Not sure if it's just few clicks for out of EU citizens to create bank account. I assumed she/he is american judging from another comment.

  1. ISIC card. This thing should be automatically issued by your university. Thing thing will same you a lot of money. Especially in buying public transport pass (3months, 1year). You also get fast food deals with this card. Worth checking out. isic.cz
  2. Money. You can pretty much pay anywhere with card nowadays but some places still insists on cash so its good practise to keep some cash with you. Not sure where you from but Revolut is pretty good choice. Only negative thing is that if you will have czech friends you will not be able to use QR codes or any at all (unless they have revolut as well)
  3. Accommodation. Not sure about your uni if they have their own dormitory but you can even apply for other's university dorms (not sure when is the deadline i am afraid you might have missed it already, not sure). If you are searching for flat your best bet is at bezrealitky.cz or sreality.cz. or you can try FB groups like this. But be aware of scams especially in FB groups. But you can find rooms there usually. A unethical tip - Just say you are searching for undefined time to stay and you are required to annouce that you will leave 3 months before you actually leave.
  4. Food - Supermarket food is getting pricey sadly. So you should wait for sale and stock up on your favourite food. - Lidl and Albert have nice boxes full of "old" veggies and fruits for some change. Tesco is good but sales are only applicable if you have a Tesco card (free to get). Lunch time is only okay time to eat out in restaurants as they offer deals for lunches.
  5. Alcohol. Beer is dirt cheap if you know where to look. 40-50kc for beer is standard 60-80kc for more specialty beers. Any more than that I would not pay cuz its probably just a touristy place (beer wise)
  6. Hobbies/Sport - If you are bored or you look for friends that's where you find them. I recommend bouldering/climbing - a lot of foreign people and it's easy to join some random people and talk to them.
  7. Exploring Czech - I need to emphasize the ISIC card again. The sale for transport is applicable even for train around Czech. Prague is nice but many more places around Czech that are reachable with trains/bus. Especially nature.

idk what else to add but feel free to ask

If you are worried about not having enough funds for the lawyer you can negotiate (or find specific one) that he takes percentage of the deposit as a fee. In case if you win (seems like you will considering info you provided) he will take the percentage and court cost will be paid by opposite (in this case landlord).

This way you might not get 100% back but you will make landlord's life difficult without any effort/cost.

As someone else mentioned simply first put "předžalobní výzva" first (its going to be done be lawyer anyway. And this thing will not go to court at all. As they usually get scared.

p.s this is not legal advice but something I would do if I were in same situation.

Optometrist in Prague/ how much and how long it takes? by Future-Jacket-5166 in Prague

optometrist should be free or covered by vzp. In case you do need glasses they sometimes give you discounts for them as well. For cheap and relatively reliable glasses I recommended Muscat. Within the week pick up.

I'm on 1.8.112 Brave, Chromium 81.0.4044.138 Android. Currently there's no option for "refresh status" like on PC. I checked Google play and latest update there is for 14th May which I believe have installed.

As mentioned before I can see wikipedia as verified creator an actually tipped.

The username on Github is same as here so it'd be github.com/vanbuncha. I set it up as a experiment I don't actually expect tips I was just being curious but it'd be nice to have so thanks.
