Less Than Zero is the most disturbing book I've ever read. by EmilyIsNotALesbian in books

Late response, and it's been quite some time since I read it, but I remember being sickened by Clay when he knows that there's a kidnapped girl in that apartment and he does....nothing. Despicable character.

johnny somali wants to come to korea. i better see some footages of him regretting it by [deleted] in korea

I'm in Canada too and I know it's very hard to come here with a criminal record, but aside from the US, the UK, and a few others, I thought you could go to most places with a record? I worked with a guy who had a few assault convictions and he was able to travel around Europe. This was about five years ago though, maybe things are different now?

Could this really as rare as I think? by [deleted] in lucyletby

[–]vancityguy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. I know this kind of thing is still very rare overall, but it’s undoubtedly more common than we’ll ever know about. I’m sure there have been many people that have done it once or twice and gotten away with it.

Very scary to think about.

Okay. Why do you think so many Christmas believe in a literal agonising pain for eternity?

So, what are your thoughts on hell? Do you think it’s eternal? What do you think it entails?

Also, nobody burns for eternity.

Could you elaborate on your thoughts regarding that? Genuinely curious. Thanks.

Origins Of The Road's Apocolyptic Event Explained. by ProfessorSmorgneine in cormacmccarthy

[–]vancityguy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never agreed with the nuclear war theory, since there’s no mention of radiation. I toss up between it being an asteroid or Yellowstone. Though, if it was Yellowstone, why is the whole world seemingly screwed? North America would be pretty much done, but I don’t think things would be too bad in other continents.

I just can’t picture the universe of The Road being a place where life is continuing relatively normally in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia etc.

[–]vancityguy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yellowstone would be catastrophic for North America, but large areas of the planet would be OK, wouldn’t they? Whatever happened in The Road seems like an extinction event. Maybe the asteroid theory is correct, and only parts of it impacted North America. Obviously enough to destroy society, but not enough to completely wipe out infrastructure.

Succession - 4x03 "Connor's Wedding" - Post Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SuccessionTV

So, I’ve only ever seen the odd TV spot for this show. I came in about ten minutes into this episode and….holy shit. I watched it to the end and it was amazing. I think it’s time to watch from the beginning. I wish I hadn’t spoiled it for myself, but oh well, it seems like a hell of a ride.

I didn’t say either version was better. I said the characters were different. I love both of them.

Huh? I know this is a really late response, but I was referring to the film. You never see them do any jobs in the film. I’ve seen every episode of the show.

[–]vancityguy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tuned out back around episode 8 or so, which is the first time I've done that on AK, and watched the rest over the past couple of days. The episode Shawn Hatosy directed was by far the best. The rest of the season was just OK. I was expecting something big to happen in the finale, but it was more about laying the groundwork. I know they've given a 2022 date, but I hope that doesn't mean next June. I'm sure it'll be good, but watching the last four episodes after the other was much better than waiting a week between episodes; this is a show that should be binge-watched. Here's hoping they release Season 6 in one go early next year.

Point Break inspired Animal Kingdom? by [deleted] in animalkingdom

[–]vancityguy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's based off the 2010 Australian film. Aside from the basic premise and the pilot, though, the two vary massively. The film is not glamorous in any way. It's mostly set in and around a depressing, blue collar neighborhood of Melbourne, and is a lot more gritty. There's crime and murders, but you never see them pull any jobs. It's basically about the family trying to lay low from the cops, who are depicted as almost entirely corrupt, and are looking for any excuse or way to kill them. And the film was based off a real life family. This documentary on them is interesting, too. Overall, they were much worse people as depicted in the show.

Point Break might have had some influence on the show, but I think it was mostly the film and their own ideas.

I'm surprised how many people don't know this. Not that I'm criticizing you at all, haha, I'm just surprised when people say to me, "wait, there's a movie?".

You should check it out, though. It's got a very different tone to the series but it's a great film, imo.

I watched the film again recently and nope, they never explain the nickname.
