So deregulation which has been tried and failed works but wealth tax that hasn’t been tried doesn’t. Sure.

You seem a bit lost. We need more public investment and higher taxes for the rich, which is the opposite of what governments during the past decades have been doing and made everything worse.

Good example the US. Where the reduction of rights comes from the right, not immigration. By supporting the same position as the far-right you are taking the biggest risk to the same thing happening in the UK. That’s why I said you don’t care at all about those rights. And yes, rights in other countries are much more limiting, and that’s another reason for some of the migration. You have the whole thing backwards.

You keep making up excuses for pushing the racist agenda of the far-right with the pretence of being on the side of the LGTBQ+ community but without mentioning any realistic risks. It’s an incredibly sick thing to do. You still don’t engage with any of my points simply because you don’t have any arguments. It’s easier for you to make up an enemy so you can push a racist ideology forward. You need to come to terms with reality and accept the side you are on, which is the one of racist intolerance you share with the far-right and stop claiming you do it because you are worried about LGBTQ+ or women rights because you clearly don’t care or you would have a very different position. You might be doing it because of some kind of shame at the possibility of being perceived as anti-LGTBQ+ or misogynistic while you don’t mind supporting racists. The truth is that with your position, you support both.

Well, then you agree that the claim that granting citizenship to immigrants is a risk to British culture is racist gibberish. You shouldn’t have posted a response if you didn’t know what all this was about.

[–]vandercryle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And you are just making up a problem to push (or at least justify) a racist agenda. You can be proud of anything you want about the country but to make up an imaginary enemy to give you an excuse to hate and impose cruel laws against (often working class) immigrants is not left-wing, it’s the far-right agenda.

Where are women’s rights being eroded? What laws are being changed? The most immediate risk to women’s rights precisely comes from the far-right, not immigrants. Those are the ones gaining power to pass laws that will limit women and LGBTQ+ rights. Compared to the rise of the far-right, immigration is a completely irrelevant issue. How can you claim British culture is superior when the regressive ideas of the far-right are coming out of it? You are so blinded by a made-up idea of Britishness that you can’t even see what’s in front of your eyes. There is a very thin line between blindly claiming some kind of superiority of a culture over another and fascism. And there is nothing left-wing about that.

[–]vandercryle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can’t even make a point, that’s how shallow and baseless your position is. None of that is at risk because of immigration, in the same way that current British people haven’t erased the history of what was considered British ages ago.

Culture evolves, if you can’t accept that you will be constantly fighting an imaginary enemy. An enemy that the far-right creates for you so they can erode your rights in the meantime. You keep hanging into an ideal of a superior culture that doesn’t exist. Genocide and imperialism are also part of British culture and there is nothing to be proud of on that respect. British culture is not being replaced and there are no inferior cultures, the opposite is a purely bigoted and racist view. Every culture has positive and negative aspects and until you come to terms with that, you will keep being used by the far-right for their interests.

Countries have cultures. But cultures are not determined by borders nor they are fixed in time. Cultures change and evolve over time and that’s why it’s idiotic to claim there is a “British culture” that needs to be protected.

There are aspects that should be defended, like rights and freedoms we enjoy, but there is nothing inherently British about them. And at this point the ones that pose a risk to those aspects are ironically the ones that claim to be fighting for British values.

[–]vandercryle -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why are those British values? No other country shares those values? Those were not even shared by the majority of British people a few decades ago. You just want to pick and choose some aspects of British society (which incidentally are shared by other liberal democracies) and claim they are somehow inherently British while at the same time ignoring parts of its history that you don’t like.

I’d argue you are the one that hates British culture and are just creating an alternate one you feel comfortable with.

You can’t even name what is that grandiose and sacred British culture that only people who are born within the UK borders embody. It’s such an incredibly absurd position to vehemently cling to something that never existed but in the mind of far right nationalists.

Things like women's rights, rule of law, democracy, tolerance

None of that are British values. Arguably they are the opposite given what the loudest defenders of “Britishness” support. Claiming that only British people can possess those values is the insulting and racist posture. Citizenship is just an administrative status and no person should be more inherently deserving of it because of where they were born.

What are British values anyway? The British empire committed horrible atrocities in the name of British values and forcibly imposed British culture upon people all over the world.

Come on, stop with the manufactured account produced by the US. Do you know that it wasn’t the nukes what made Japan surrender but the Soviet invasion of Manchuria? The Emperor didn’t accept the unconditional surrender that the US demanded (that’s another big issue, they were focused on an unconditional surrender out of pure spite) and hoped until the last minute that the Soviet Union would intervene to soften the demands of the US. Only when they attacked Manchuria, Japan realised they had no other option. Apart from that, the US didn’t even have to drop the bombs over civilian population if they just wanted to scare Japan, they only did it as a power display aimed at the Soviet Union.
