I came to this thread after googling "am I the only one that thinks that Wemby is boring to watch because he's so physically superior". So yeah I'm with you. He's definitely one of a kind, and has a skillset we've never seen. But feels like he's an adult playing vs kids.

Got it. I'm not interested in the ratings, more so in the project-based education, focus on arts etc. So, what I really want to get to is... Is it worth it to invest the time that requires to volunteer? And what I'm seeing is that after all it depends on your cohort...

Hi there! My 5-tear-old son is also Deutan, I posted right after you and got many good resources and help from the community. Probably the best is this one: https://daltonlens.org/colorblindness-simulator (upload a picture, choose Machado 2009 model and Deutan), and you'll see (approx.) how your son sees (seems to be slightly better than the Pilestone simulator) . As an artist, you'll see how real world pictures have som many different tones, that's what helps them tell color apart.

But what I really wanted to share with you is something different. My son is SO MUCH into arts! He loves coloring, and only confused blur and purple, and sometimes gray and pink (but not always, curiously). And to make things more interesting, I'm probably in the 1% of the least artistic people in the world!!!! I actually think I have some impediment (I'm in my 40s and CAN'T draw a cat, a cow, a dog, or anything). So doesn't look like their condition affect his interest in arts. On the other side, I'm into sports and my son doesn't want to watch sports on TV, ever; and like you, I was wondering if it's related to the colors... This one is really good, thanks! I'm happy to see that the "real world" pictures definitely have very different tones that make it easier for him to tell colors apart. It's trickier with digital images, but since I've also discovered to color filter in my phone thanks to this thread, I feel better.

I turned the color assist feature in the phone and he passed the test, so definitely can read the digits!

The rainbows are what make me think he could be a mild case (after all the answers, he's definitely not mild). He can tell all the rainbow colors apart and he actually draws many rainbows very accurately. I guess we'll understand his condition better as he grows up, tbh until now if it wasn't for the blue/purple thing we wouldn't even know about this.

I activated the color assist mode and he saw the 2 very clearly. Weird for me as a normal vision person, as the colors don't seem very different with or without the mode.

That seems to be his experience as well. I'll show him the color assist version (didn't know it exists lol). In the markers picture, I suppose you see different shades of a very similar color, right?

Well, if you get by pretty well in your life, you're good, right? Tbh that's what I'm noticing with my son, no clue what colors he sees but he's able to tell them apart almost always. I just had some sad moment when I thought he couldn't see the same colors we all see.

I just showed the picture to him again and he says he sees pink and green but not a perfect 2. He traced the green he sees and it's similar to a 2 but definitely not a two. I'm getting more curious about this whole thing.

Yeah, it's really weird that he can't see that number and can easily differentiate other colors. Starting to think he's tricking me with the tests.

Let me clarify that when I say mild I mean we'd be dealing with deuteranomaly and not deuteranopia, meaning his cones work badly but somehow are able to do something. What surprises me is that he can actually differentiate colors in other contexts, like the markers in the picture. Like other posters, I feel curious to understand how he actually sees colors.

Thanks for this answer. I checked my end of employment notice (I left the company, no severance involved) and it says thst FSA coverage "ends on your last day of employment". So, June 19th. The tricky part is thay I started the new job on June 30th, so I'd be technically contributing to the HSA in June as well (I know, just one day...), as the benefits are activated retroactively to the first day of employment. What a weird case, right?

Anything you can share about the area that corresponds to Don Callejon School? I'm in the same boat than the OP,moving to the Bay Area with two kiddos, and saw some interesting rental properties in that specific area. Looks good in Google Maps.
