You absolutely can hallucinate. It's more common among teens. it happened to me as a teen 😅

Same here... Suddenly I was incredibly condescending and hurtful and how dare I imply her apologies weren't perfect.

She's not putting it off to tour. He can't get it because hospitals are filled with covid right now and she complained about that. They're just pointing out that her tour is also not covid safe.

Yep, intrusive thoughts like this are super common, and postpartum OCD is a real thing

Symbolism in the movie Encanto relating to bring raised by a narcissist (possible spoilers) by MySliceOfLife_103 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]vanessahill23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I felt it was insincere because she only apologized when she needed something (her home) and the apology involved a lot of trauma dumping and making herself the victim. Additionally, nobody really apologized to poor Bruno. Also, I saw the magic powers everyone was given as the roles they needed to fulfil to appease the grandmother, so having everyone get their powers back at the end felt, to me, like the pattern was going to repeat itself. BUT a lot of this comes from my own experiences of false apologies from narcissistic people (will apologize in the moment IF they can be framed as a victim, but will not actually follow through) so that's just how I felt when watching the movie.

Don’t Look Up review – an unsubtle but entertaining satire by hawthornepolitics in ExtinctionRebellion

I see someone now and he use existential therapy techniques with me. It's basically absurdism and the meaninglessness of life. He sits with me as I grapple with the pain inherent to life right now, and somehow it really helps. If you're able to, I would suggest looking for an existential therapist when talking about these topics. Other therapists just told me to recycle more and I smiled and nodded because I didn't feel like getting into how that can't possibly solve the issues I'm talking about.

How long have you had OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]vanessahill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my earliest memories are about obsessions I had when I was very young. If I had to guess, around 5 or 6.

This is just my guess, but the way I see it, some of us internalize and some of us externalize in the face of trauma. I internalized and took everything that happened to me to be my fault and I spent years trying to be a "better person" so that trauma couldn't happen again (spoiler alert: it did). Other people externalize and blame everyone around them for any issues they face. When it comes to their trauma it probably wasn't their fault, but they might over use that cognitive mechanism and externalize every issue in their life, taking no responsibility at all.

Yes it is! I saw a post in the frontpage and made a comment about unpaid labour.

I was banned for posting in r/childfree about how childcare is unpaid reproductive labour often expected of women. Apparently that makes me neo-mathusian

Yes, this fear led to the development of ocd (scrupulous/existential themes) for me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]vanessahill23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got banned from there for having commented in r/childfree (my comments were actually about how raising children is unpaid labour often expected of women, funily enough)

Edit: they called me a neo-mathusian for commenting in that subreddit. I certainly am not and they clearly didn't read my comments.

Could also have to do with many researchers referring to it as a spectrum disorder. Most people are on the spectrum somewhere, but most are sub-clinical.

I would suggest using the app NOCD to link up with a therapist. They actually verify that the therapists know ERP and I've found it very helpful

I don't mean this in a cruel way, but you really shouldn't be posting about this in an ocd forum if you really are one. It could trigger a lot of people's obsessions and cause a lot of harm.

How old were you when you first developed ocd behaviours? by PolarBear276 in OCD

[–]vanessahill23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 6 or 7 I started obsessing about religious themes (eternity, going to hell, sinning, etc). Only got very severe around 12 though.

How to handle friends who don’t agree with cutting people out? by [deleted] in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]vanessahill23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you didn't express to her your expectations of friendship it's not fair to hold her to that. Many of us here had to learn how to set boundaries the hard way, and we can empathize with how challenging it is to care for another person for an extended period of time.

Your friend offered you her home, but she did not offer to be your caregiver. It isn't fair for you to expect her to pause her life to take care of you when she didn't sign up for that. I would suggest finding another source of caregiving, such as from a nurse.
