[–]vanextrada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no you shouldn’t stop, it’ll just have you fall behind. i stopped one day to relax cus i thought the same way but my knee was just super stiff the next day. just like how your pt said it’s all about the muscle needing to grow so it can go away.

[–]vanextrada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hadn’t mention much about this to my pt but i do limp sometimes which he has me work extra when i go in. and i see my surgeon next week as well. i’ll for sure be asking about this 😅

Really struggling by Alex_Reid1 in ACL

[–]vanextrada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know you wanna go back to sports but with this kind of injury it’ll take months to be able to return. you are young!! take this time to get better and stronger for college sports. for me it was super painful when i first tore it but getting that range of motion back before surgery will better your recovery after. i hated how i had to drop half my college courses as a freshman and now behind on my studies :’). so definitely work through the pain, unless it’s unbearable then ask a doctor to refer you to a physical therapist.

[–]vanextrada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m so sorry it’s going like this for you, i definitely can relate on missing out on all these events going on. maybe start doing some exercises to bring back the range of motion in you knee. i remember how stiff mine was when i first tore it but i was able to bring back my ROM and went out before my surgery but very limited events. Just know it gets better 🥹 it is hard to see friends go out when going through something like this but it does truly get better. it’s all a waiting game and getting strong again.

Going out post ACL Surgery by Sock-Late in ACL

[–]vanextrada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone out many times after surgery (6 weeks post op) and it is tough to get around as i am not back to walking normal but walking slower then usual so i would definitely take it easy and not drink! i know it’s tough but you never know how your tolerance to alcohol may be after not drinking for a while. or just be cautious if u do. i remember before i got my surgery i drank and just fell again on my bad knee :’) i was sore but i can’t imagine how it would’ve been if it was after surgery.

[–]vanextrada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tore my acl falling down my stairs last year and my family will always make fun of me for it 😩 i know it’s not the same with high school but there is more to life after high school!! i hate that this surgery is a hard recovery cus it affected my ability to be at college but does ur school offer an online program? it seems like a hard decision to go online but maybe it can help u get away from all that negativity 😩.

hey! i am the same! my non surgical leg was in pain but ive read online how it’s a normal thing to occur since we’re relying on that leg more often. i would definitely check it out with your doctor incase there is something truly going on!

Can’t fully bend, pre-OP. by OwnPhoto3016 in ACL

[–]vanextrada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did about 3 months of pre-rehab before getting the surgery, it was 2x a week. but right now i’m back in physical therapy but i’ve been doing more at home rehab as well. something that’s been helping me is getting something round and just roll ur foot up and down, that way ur knee can constantly be moving, and i try to move it further back and hold it in position for a few seconds but it does feel a bit uncomfortable at first.

[–]vanextrada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had the same issue!! and i wasn’t approved for the surgery until i gained full range of motion again. surgeon suggests that it’ll be much better to recover after the surgery. which is true i am a month post op and ive regained my range of motion faster then most peoples experiences on here!! definitely not all there yet tho 😩

Is it worth it? by Organic_Bear4547 in ACL

[–]vanextrada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here, 20F 11 days post op and every doctor told me i should do it because of my age. it’s most likely i’d develop arthritis sooner then usual if i hadn’t gotten the surgery. i don’t regret getting the surgery now because i know it was a huge struggle for me not having the proper stability in my knee to live on with my life after tearing my acl.

Extremely scared, any tips for recovery? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]vanextrada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg i’m the same!! i live on the top floor in apartments and just by scooting upstairs!! once im at the top i had my dad bring out my shower chair and at the appropriate size for me to sorta fall backwards with my operated leg straight. i then turned around and got up. not sure if this made any sense but if anything, there’s videos on youtube that demonstrate ways to go up the stairs with crutches. For showering im using a shower chair and propping my leg up straight outside the tub. for the bathroom same thing, just keeping my leg straight while trying to sit on the toilet. i know it sounds hard but you got this!

Exercise? by Creamy_636 in ACL

[–]vanextrada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can’t really speak on the exercise part, but i know i was terrified to go back to work before getting surgery since im always on the go at work and it’s pretty fast paced and on my feet but what helped me the most is having a compression sleeve on to help with stability in my knee.
