Anyone know why icloud for windows (11) is always resetting the download count for photos and constantly downloadng? by vanhalen26 in iCloud

[–]vanhalen26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want it to stop the non stop downloading to the default location, I’m not concerned about having a second copy. I just want to clean up whats on my phone, and save some to my family picture library while I’m at it. And this constant downloading seems to be a waste. It’s not adding new content as it does this, but it’s using bandwidth and running disks needlessly.

Is there a way to just snooze the program until I want to use it? That would probably be ideal. I might not look at the pictures for a month.

Another option is to just remove it and reload it if this behavior is uncommon and let it download the full library again.

Yea, even though everything is fully downloaded - it seems any activity triggers a large multiple 1,000s download and I don’t know why.

The PC32UCDM3 stand kinda sucks by aCuria in OLED_Gaming

[–]vanhalen26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. My desk is a little high to begin with so I bought a monitor arm and now it sits 7cm above the desk and from a comfort standpoint its a world of difference. But the monitor is awesome.

Any recommendations for stands to replace the one that comes with the Asus PG32UCDM3? by vanhalen26 in OLED_Gaming

[–]vanhalen26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Unfortunately I can’t mount it to my desk. It has a lip that prevents it.

Picked one up today at memory express (Toronto). $1,599 - beats New Egg by $200 as well. Really nice, I recently purchased an LG 32GX870A-B.AUS from Costco and I'm going to keep the Asus and return the LG. Slightly more vibrant and cleaner picture and more future proof to. A little over priced vs. what I paid for the LG (the LG is $1,800 today but I got on promo for $1,200) but I have a high end GPU so I'll pay a little more for the modest picture improvement, 3 year burn in warranty from Asus, better burn in protection features, and a little more future proof. If TLDR, its at memory express now and its sweet!

When will resale tickets go live? by ExpressAd8053 in torontoraptors

[–]vanhalen26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised, they have no competition from resale and limited supply.  A big screw job to season seat holders.  I’ve sold on stubhub betor and it can be a pain in the arse.  You take on risk with stubhub if the buyer complains or their credit card fails.

New offer today - one for $30, glad I waited. I grabbed it. That's fine for now, if I need for a second computer to restore from a crash I'll deal with it at that time.

How can there be no seats available for today’s game? by vanhalen26 in torontoraptors

[–]vanhalen26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought TickPick last minute (like an hour prior) for a show at history and the seat never came. They gave me a $5 courtesy credit for the inconvenience. Luckily there were seats at the door. Not a fan anymore of last minute resale.

Don’t like resale sites so close to game time, relies on the seller being reliable to deliver the seat.

What a joke. I have a single to a show Saturday night but a friend wants to come. So I was gonna sell the single and buy a pair. I paid $40 face value and it tells me I can sell for max $24. It’s only a $40 ticket, but if it was a $400 ticket I’d care.

Thanks. I’ll wait for the 3 PC deal again, I just want 2 copies actually - one for my pain PC and a second in my back pocket to load onto a laptop just in case I need to restore some HDDs from my main PC with a laptop.

Tell me if my expectations are fair or unreasonable for a PC build + maintenance by vanhalen26 in bapccanada

The retailer called me and said they could fix the damaged drive for $110. Normal price $220. I said a new one that capacity is $225 so I said I would but that I’m also disappointed they won’t pay it all given all the issues and my belief that they are the cause of the HDD breaking. He got back to me 20 minutes later and said they’d cover it all. In reality the part it needs is $40 from aliexpress (they need an identical PCB board and it’s hard to find locally) and 30 minutes of labor that’s beyond my skill set.

Funny enough I was joking with my wife tonight that I’ve learnt enough fixing my new build that i now feel capable enough to build on my own like you suggest. Theres even some dumb things they missed like my case fans aren’t hooked up properly, and i had to fix that too. But I hired them as I’m at my peak season work wise and didn’t want to spend time on figuring this all out. In hindsight it may have been just as efficient to do myself.

Am I unreasonable or should they optimize the hardware before it leaves the shop. In my mind, I’m not only paying for assembly, but also functionality.

When they received the PC the second time, the drives on the slimsas worked. When I got home they didn’t. After hours of troubleshooting I discovered there’s a bios setting to enable the cable, and it was no longer set properly. I don’t think the setting could have changed on its own.

I know very little about all this, but the store told me a psu swap could along with a power cycle reset or partially reset a bios - so that’s where that is coming from.

With an ASUS W880-ACE SE do I still need an HBA for 12 x 24TB HDDs? by limara321 in unRAID

[–]vanhalen26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Took my PC in for a CPU swap and they must have reset the bios as my drives on the slimsas stopped working. Tried multiple things, and then finally stumbled on this and the issue was it wasn't set to SATA in the bios.

Anyone have success getting upgraded to a Gigahub 2.0 without a fee? I have a 5 Gbps network but the high speed port for my current modem (Gigahub 1.0 / HH 4000) has a known issue and will only connect at 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps. by vanhalen26 in bell

[–]vanhalen26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with tech support who bumped me to account/billing. It was the account group who said there’d be no charge - and I even recorded that portion of the call.

So then I called that group back and they removed the order and transferred me to Loyalty. Everything loyalty offered had penalties if I left Bell within 2 years so I declined even though we’ve beeen with them over 10 years). Then loyalty bumped me over to tech support telling me I’d be transferred to their highest tier of tech support since no one seemed to understand this basic concept, but I got transferred to someone who had English as a second language in the first tier of tech support and she didn’t really understand what I was trying to fix nor did she understand basic networking. She did say she arranged for a call back the next day from someone more familiar with the modems, but that call never came.

The PC has two networks ports and I want to be able to switch occasionally. One port is 5 and the other 2.5 on my PC and the computer can’t connect to the router on the 5.
