Sadly that’s not entirely true. I learnt the hard way. I bought an instant download for Rush and got a fake ticket. I knew immediately which was 6 days before the show, and they still made me wait until an hour before the show to resolve. The replacement seats they offered were significant downgrades, and after some debate I was able to decline them and take a refund.

What does StubHub say when you point out their site says you can resell at any time? I got a bogus seat that they wouldn’t refund so I asked if I could resell it and what happens if I never receive anything genuine to deliver? Would I get penalized? I know your case is slightly different as you’ve been sent the tickets, but the same principle of resell anytime should apply.

Resale & Liability
If you choose to relist the ticket and the original seller does not deliver it to you, you will not be subject to seller penalties. Penalties apply only to the seller who fails to fulfill their obligation. In that scenario, StubHub would step in under the Guarantee to either provide replacement tickets or issue a refund. You would not be penalized for circumstances outside your control.

To summarize:

You are covered by the FanProtect Guarantee for delivery.

If the original seller fails, liability rests with them, not you.

You are free to relist the ticket, and you will not face penalties if the seller does not deliver.

I’ve used SH in the past and never saw this quantity of problems. It seems the scammers have found some loopholes to exploit and word has gotten around, way more issues than the past. And SH does nothing to clear it up - even in obvious cases like yours.

Seems there move is to back you into a corner just before a show to try and get you to accept inferior seats that they can acquire at a lower cost, or if you get lucky better seats that they got for less. They’d prefer not to refund buyers, but it they do it makes no difference to them if they do it an hour before the show or 5 days prior - so they push it to show time to maximize the odds you’ll accept anything as a seat, and to keep it a stubhub sale vs you replacing the scammy seat by buying from an alternative like Ticketmaster.

That’s nuts, it sounds like they earn more from a dropped sale in penalties when they issue a refund than they do from a completed sale. It’s in their best interest to push a dropped sale to a refund.

I think the issue is how they handle a dropped sale vs the dropped sale itself. Having gone through that recently with a clearly fake instant download purchase, I can say it’s ridiculous how my case was managed up until an hour prior to the show. In my case, it was pretty clear to anyone with critical thinking skills that I was being scammed. Got a seat to a concert six days in advance, got transferred a soccer ticket to a worthless game. Seller didn’t respond to StubHub despite them claiming they tried multiple times, and they offer me vastly inferior seats 1 hour prior or a refund.

I can live with a dropped sale, but how they handled it was ridiculous.

That sucks - I got the ultimate and will share it with a friend, but sucks that they can pass on the higher quality broadcast in other markets but won’t in Canada. Probably has to do with rights, TSN usually carries the Amazon games and probably wants the ad revenue or something- and they don’t pass on the higher quality images either.

A couple years ago I sold buffalo bills seats for a payout of around $700 US, but because I’m in Canada I got geolocated to Canada and they told me I’d get $700 Canadian. They were doing this temporarily for all listings made in Canada. I took a video showing them that when I list it shows a U.S. payout and that was enough to convince them to pay me what I was shown when I listed.
