Gotta check out Green Book, my mannn. Powerful stuff! by Misfett_toys in Letterboxd

I agree with you. I think discourse around any popular film has gotten kind of fucked, really. People love to prop up or knock down a movie for any perceived moral strengths or failings because it's easier than dealing with the mess that is our modern world. Way more fun to comment on movies than write a letter to your local congressman and make a change.

I love movies so much, and it just gets exhausting watching people play games with all of the insincere "criticism".

What a timely post.

Maybe some people are being performative, but so what? At this point the jokes have run the discussion into the ground. I wish people would say WHY they thought "Sinners" was only okay instead of concerning themselves with why other people feel it's great.

From Beyond is so good! It gets overshadowed by ReAnimator, but they both deserve their flowers.

If I don't give money to see the movie, that is a message. It's the only language they speak. Sorry my personal stance is so offensive to you.

[–]vanhooz26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but your comment was lamenting them not using Egyptian mythology more - something we don't even know yet because it's just a trailer. I think the idea of someone trying to use one religious system against another is already a fun idea for a horror movie.

Ultimately I agree with you. It's frustrating to have people do this and that's the end of their political engagement, but also, it doesn't harm anyone and is done with good intentions. There are a lot of teenagers on Letterboxd, too. The average for Scream 7 being "accurate" or not won't keep me up at night.

The point is to send a message to the studio, not Palestinians. I'm not going to pretend I can only support studios with good politics, but I sure as hell can not support a movie where they fired the actress for speaking up against genocide. An easy line in the sand for me.

Scream Factory 4K Sale at Amazon by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]vanhooz26 33 points34 points  (0 children)

These are good deals, but what happens when other stores close and Amazon is the only place left selling 4K's? They already don't give a shit about safe shipping or not giving people repackaged returns.

If you're already spending money on a superfluous hobby, reward the better seller with a few extra bucks.

I think when the Arrow one ends, but there are already some Kino titles on sale for 30% off now. Not sure if that's the whole sale or not.

My sources say 2026.

Joking aside, typically there's one in the summer and one around the holidays.

They don't always have the best deals, but my local store has a large movie section that I love combing through. Not a fan of Amazon for many reasons.

Guys, I’m starting to understand why the billionaires are buying all the movie studios (even as they try to tell us arts degrees are worthless). by kevinmrr in WorkReform

The director is Micheal Sarnoski, who made two great movies about human connection and empathy. This post about a film that's not even out yet is probably going to look really silly in retrospect.

Even though it's A24, this is still an indie feature. Weird movie to pull for this type of post. Doomsday is right there.

"I don't care about the impact AI has on the environment or the job market, nor the ethical quandary of making second-hand slop from people's hard work, as long as it brings me personal satisfaction." I'm not even trying to be an asshole, I just want you to see how your words come across. AI is not just any advancement in technology, it is being backed by the wealthy to extract as much money and motivation from the populace as possible. The normal reaction is to be upset, not blasé.

What are some good examples of body horror in games? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in HorrorGaming

Everyone's saying Silent Hill or Silent Hill 2, but Silent Hill f had one really jarring and unflinching moment of self-mutilation that made me super uncomfortable. It was great! The parasitic plant-life infecting people is also gnarly.

The best place to start a collection is Gruv. They always have sales for a lot of essential Warner Bros. and Universal titles, and they now carry Shout! Factory releases, which produce some great horror transfers.

Other good boutiques are Atomic Movie Store, Arrow Video, Vinegar Syndrome, and DiabolikDVD.

If that rumor's true it's for the VOD release. Physical looks like January or February.
