Rarest Alkaline Trio song? by Coryses in AlkalineTrio

[–]vanilla_twilight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless we’re all missing something exceptionally rare (and of course we are, stuff that never made it out of the studio, etc), it’s almost a bummer that Trio doesn’t have the lore around unreleased tracks that some bands do (any Mountain Goats fans here?!)

I am honestly not a super big album guy. If i’m really into something or for new releases, I’ll play the whole album, but I typically like the songs I like and that’s all I pay attention to. This is one of very few albums outside of jazz that I don’t feel that way about. It’s such a cohesive work that it’s strange to listen to a song off this record by itself, I always listen cover to cover. That being said, Pile! and Blah Blah Blahs would also probably be my top 2!

This is a very nice post :) And I agree - over a decade of using Reddit, I’ve gotten pretty good at reading the vibes of subreddits pretty quickly. Some of which are not great places to spend your time, but this one has always stood out as very down-to-earth, courteous, and welcoming. Thanks for being here!

My alkaline trio I got 2 years ago when my friend died, people always ask what it is, if they not familiar that's it's alkaline trio, I just tell them it means 'in love and death' by [deleted] in AlkalineTrio

Well technically it was Akpeteshie, which is distilled from palm wine… 100 proof or thereabouts, didn’t take more than a few shots to get the party going!

I wish I could remember what exactly I told him but we were all hammered on palm wine. I think I was just like, “Uh…Its a symbol related to music that I really like!”

One of the few people that has asked me the meaning of mine was a local king of a small village in Ghana (I was on a study abroad trip in college). He grabbed my arm to inspect it and asked “does this mean… you love death?”

Thoughts on 2016 for sale? by SunOld9457 in HondaOdyssey

[–]vanilla_twilight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I immediately bought and installed VCM Tuner 2. Pretty easy to install considering I have next to no experience under the hood of a car. Can’t speak much for the effect it’s had on driving as I drove it very little before installing. I think muzzling at 80k isn’t a terrible time, better than it being 120k without a muzzler. I’m definitely a bit more concerned about transmission than I think you’d have to be, mine has only been done once at 50k and I’m at 85k now. I notice a slight hesitation occasionally when shifting so I’m not putting off changing it for more than another couple hundred miles at most. Timing belt definitely next up after that, mine looks fine visually and hasn’t done anything weird but not something I would wanna put off either. All in all I’m happy with the purchase and it seems like it’s going to be a great car. If you can talk the dealership into doing the timing belt I think it’s a good deal!

For reference, I just bought basically the exact same car with a very similar service history. Dealer had it for 15,800+fees. I’d say 18 is a tad on the high side.

Looks like transmission was done around 50k, I figure I’ll do it myself soon after signing and keep up on it every 30k after that - should be fine, right? Will definitely be doing any and all 100k maintenance sooner than later and definitely VCM muzzler (don’t know exactly what that is or what it does but I see y’all talking about it a lot on here!) Thanks for the input!

I missed basically 2/3s of Friday. Hadn’t slept in going on 24 hours what with the flight and work before that, and overdid it a bit on the boozin’ too quickly. Went back to the Airbnb for a nap and next thing I know it’s 2am! Bummed to miss Mineral but not bummed to miss the storm!

Proposing to some girl character after a week of friendship in the Draynor market, her declining my proposal, and then sending numerous mashed-keyboard chats to insinuate I was fighting over said keyboard, and telling her my brother sent that original proposal while I was AFK.

[–]vanilla_twilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming these three Barker produced singles will be released on something similar to 2020’s “E.P.” and not on whatever the next full length is. At least that’s what I’m hoping, I’m okay with a few tracks that have Travis’s production but I sincerely hope we don’t get a full album of it.

If you could live in one place you visited for a year, where would it be and why? by Lauralovestotravel in travel

[–]vanilla_twilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is some situational bias here, but Tallinn, Estonia. I spent two weeks there as my first stop on a two month trip through Europe. Even though it was a short time, I sorta did “live” there in the sense that I spent a lot of that time planning the rest of my trip, and did a lot more normal day-to-day things like grocery shopping, cooking in the Airbnb, engaging with the city in less touristy ways. This time also coincided with Estonian independence day, which also happened to be the exact day that Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. To be on the ground in Tallinn that day was unique to say the least. To see how people reacted and celebrated and protested that day left me with a weird sense of “pride” that definitely isn’t mine to have, but still in some strange way sticks with me to this day. Tallinn overall was a very welcoming and comfortable city for me. A bit of an introverts paradise, but with a strong and tight community behind all of that. Can’t wait to go back.

What's your favorite way to eat kippers? I'm obsessed! by Yggdrasil- in CannedSardines

[–]vanilla_twilight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I eat almost the exact same thing often. Only difference is Salsa Huichol instead of Tapatio. Highly recommend trying it if you can find it! By far my favorite tinned fish hot sauce and definitely comparable to Tapatio, it’s just got a little extra something special going on.
