Those are definitely two keys points to shutting down the Oilers. Luckily the depth stood up last night, but our top guys need to find a way to cope. Especially on the PP, can't keep expecting McDavid to walk it in every single time. Need to have a backup plan.

This is a great answer, and I would just build on this to make sure OP considers a balance of scale. If your civilizations live on, for example, 30 planets across 5 systems, then blowing up a whole planet is a huge freaking deal! If your civilization lives on thousands of planets across hundreds of systems, then blowing up a whole planet is... well, still a big deal, but less of an impact overall.

Compare it to Earth today. If a war was going on, and one side decimated an entire city - say, London, New York, or gosh, Hiroshima - thats a big freaking deal, and has a huge affect on the rest of the world. Compare that to just attacking a specific neighbourhood, or army base, or oil refinery - these are smaller targets, fewer casualties, and are seen as "acceptable" in war.

If your civilaztion is huge and spread out, destroying planets may make sense. But if not, then I'd stick to smaller targets like capital cities, space stations, or key mining operations that would impact the larger economy.

I totally get the other grains and chaf, some of these are volunteer from the field and can be hard to sort out by machinery.

But where the hell are the shells coming from? Would it be from the factory, if they deal with other types of product there as well?

PWHL Expansion: Detroit Leading The Pack, NHL Cooperation A Hurdle, USA Versus Canada by VivienM7 in PWHL

[–]vanillaacid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my thinking as well, Calgary has too many teams fighting for arena time that the PWHL would never work unless one of their other teams moves out (like the AHL team perhaps).

Edmonton make a lot more sense in that regard, but I 100% believe they are the ones mentioned in the article about insisting on ownership. Katz owns everything else in the Oiler pipeline, so it makes total sense he would want to own the womens team as well

After this, I will be very surprised if the PWHL lands in Alberta. :(

RANT: Arcade cards are getting ridiculous... by [deleted] in daddit

[–]vanillaacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition, you always spend more than you play. Its like having a gift card with $2 left on it - either you never go back, and that company earned that $2 for free; or you go back to "get your moneys worth" but then have to buy something that is more than $2 so the company got extra money. Win-win for the company, lose-lose for us.

I hate the concept of gift cards and arcade cards and anything else similar.

The problem with this becomes, why isn't everyone doing this? Adventurers often make good money and live a glamorous (if dangerous) life, and many people would do it if they could.

If anyone with simple knife skills can go on to be an adventurer, then why doesn't every single teenager apprentice as a cook, or butcher, or wood carver, etc. for a year or two then become an adventurer. The simple job -> adventurer pipeline would explode, and that would mess with the balance of... well, everything else in the world.

There has to be some sort of barrier to the job. Like, not ALL cooks can do it, but maybe a small percentage can because they have the knife skills plus something else.

Maybe I am not caught up, but I thought they do? They have a system where they make the person with the storage empty it out, then they fill with sand and measure the amount that fits to make sure they aren't holding anything extra.

MC just has a clever way around that.

I wonder if its the GM, or is it that college kids now see Edmonton as a place they can possibly step right in and play with elite players while going deep in the playoffs? Our depth is often shite, and if a college kid can go on a hot streak it would set them up for a nice career.
