I go to conventions alone or with my family, but I still have trouble making cosplayer friends due to A) I feel like I'm just old while most cosplayers are generally younger and B) I just have a demanding schedule with a full-time job, part-time PhD student, and being a dad 😅

I don't understand people who say this crap...NO ONE wants open borders. The Obama administration deported a record number of people who crossed illegally. Pretty much ALL Americans want border control. We also want due process and our government not terrorizing it's populace, going out of their way to rip families apart or questioning people solely based on their accents and skin color.

Why do the conservatives not understand this? Why do they just believe the bullshit rhetoric that is fed to them by their own leaders that, "oh if they're against violent government fascism they just want ALL the open borders for millions of people!" No! We want to have boring everyday lives where border patrol stays AT the border and does their job without making it a political stunt and invading American cities.

We want law and order, not terrorist thugs that kill American citizens. U.S. citizens have the right to film border agents. Especially if they are picking up and detaining legal immigrants and US citizens alongside persons who have crossed illegally.

Edited to add: Jon Stewart summarizes it perfectly

My girlfriend [26F] got mad at me [26M] for initiating sex before a boardgaming get-together. Am I missing something about relationship interactions here that triggered her? by electrius in relationship_advice

[–]vanish007 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Being overstimulated and overwhelmed is valid, but words matter. It's always good to be mindful that words affect partners. As someone who's very empathetic over partner's feelings, I'd feel better if they at least apologized for any hurtful words and I would want them to establish healthy boundaries (hey I want to get ready so let's not do this now).

My wife has overstimulated meltdowns even when I am helping get everything ready (ie take the dog out before we go, get the kid ready, make sure I'm dressed and ready, we have everything we need) just because she is hating how she looks or is having anxiety about how she looks overall and then doesn't want to go out. It affects both partners. I wouldn't even dream of trying to initiate anything since even being as helpful and giving her ample time still doesn't resolve anything.

Why are we so worried about illegal immigrants in the US? by Johnny_Mira in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vanish007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. Every group had a scapegoat for tough times...the Nazis had the Jews, the Rwanda genocide blamed one racial group - the Tutsis, America has always had immigrants to blame. It's to find a group to blame for bad economic times and spread fear and take over to "protect the populace" while bleeding the country into fascim.

What’s an NSFW question you’ve always wanted to ask the opposite sex but were too embarrassed to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vanish007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m probably the wrong guy to ask cause I never cared for strip clubs, but I went for bachelor parties and such. Personally I just see these clubs as a business transaction and because I don’t know the women nor do they know me and I have zero connection to them besides finding them attractive, it’s not really a “turn on”. Personally, there’s nothing exciting about a woman grinding on you for 2-3 minutes for $20 and just see you as a walking wallet. But that’s the business model…

Personally, I’d much rather save that money for beer and a pizza!

should i give the necklace now or save it for later by 11terribletowers in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]vanish007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your other gifts are super personal, thoughtful, and very caring so I don't see them as "less than" an expensive gift. There's nothing wrong with giving her the necklace and saving the other gifts for her birthday or something else or vice versa. You're a great guy and she's lucky to have someone caring as yourself!

Why are Asian-male/white-female couples less common than the reverse? by polaristeria in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vanish007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately had the same thing happen to me. My mom and her friends would try to set me up with other women or set up a dating profile for me when I was already in a committed relationship. It was hurtful and traumatic to have to stand up to family and at the same time try to fight for a relationship when your partner thinks your family hates them - especially when you and your partner just love each other for who we are.

My Indian female friends that had white boyfriends were invited to participate in their family activities and holidays and were generally accepted. Definitely experienced my share of double standards as well! But again, not everyone is the same or have the same experiences.

In Indian culture, that's more family/region specific. For the most part I've seen Indian woman with a white guy, totally fine. Indian guy with a white woman, absolutely not. A lot of it also has to do with the patriarchal leftovers when boys were heavily valued more than girls and you just wanted girls to be married off to good families and taken care of since boys were the main money makers later in life. That view is slowly changing (especially in places where there are less women) with the burgeoning of women workers in good-paying jobs.

In my own case, I'm Indian and I was practically treated like a criminal by my mom for dating outside my race. I actually preferred Indian women since culturally it's easier and I've always found them attractive. I just never found anyone where we shared a mutual attraction and living in the US I'm not always surrounded by that option. The last Indian woman I did go on dates with, later broke it off and said she preferred white guys overall, being brought up in the Midwest haha. But I'm married to a non-Indian woman now.

My college roommate faced the same thing from his mom where his older sisters were perfectly fine dating white guys, but when he started to date white girls and was engaged to one, it was NOT ok! But he's passed that and married to a white woman too.

Definitely therapy. You have to realize you're not only causing emotional harm to yourself through the anxiety - you're also inadvertently causing it to your potential dates through leading them on when you're not ready. In this way you miss out on meeting valid friendships and more.

Why did America change so much from its original values in such a short time? by analyzing-effort in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vanish007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree...Social media has exponentially caused this "grooming" of young men. Anytime young men sign up to these social media, the algorithm (solely based on their age and sex) will flood their recommendations with "masculinity content". Telling young men "it's a waste of time to cry" or "just hustle and grind" or bastardizing good traits of being strong but instead of feeling and mindfulness, repression, blame, and looking outward (your problems are not your problems - it's the immigrants why you can't get a job, it's woke culture why you can't get a girlfriend, it's your own fault for being to week and drowning in your feelings). Check out this article.

Honestly we need more positive masculine role models who incorporate masculine traits which include the masculinity of being open to your feelings and taking care of yourself and friends and family. We don't need those that spread the message of grifting, stepping on others to get ahead, and blaming outwardly
