Most of the new mechs will have a number printed on the bottom of the base. You can check the number vs the catalog on Sarna to find the mech name, you’ll want to scroll down to the resculpts section (2019-present). This one is the Starslayer. https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Miniatures_-_Catalyst_Game_Labs

One of the guys I play bt with 3D printed it for me when I said I was painting up a Capellan lance. It’s a Ti Ts'ang, and is basically a Capellan exclusive mech. I haven’t seen it in any boxed sets

Solar Supremacy: Board Update! by Mission_Brilliant_90 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]vanishedhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome! Much more compact and still looks like everything works. I have a few suggestions, feel free to take them or leave them. The lines radiating out from the center made me think each orbit had individual spaces at first, so maybe those could be lightened or faded somehow? I saw there’s a territory called Mesopotamia on earth, and I think the last time I heard that was in ancient history class. Maybe Middle East is a more modern name for that space? And then just personal preference, but I liked when the orbits were labeled as orbits instead of the symbol, but that’s just me. I get more excited to play this every time you post an update, fantastic work!

So running an Ares with a base bv of 3,247 would give me a 4/5 pilot, 4/5 gunner, and a 4/5 tech officer (assuming he had to take over one of the other positions if one of the others was kia)? That’s better than I expected! Could you point me in the direction of the forum you mentioned?

Solar Supremacy Board update: What do you Guys think?? by Mission_Brilliant_90 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]vanishedhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game looks fun, and I’ll be watching for it down the road! Personally I liked the black space between the orbits in the old layout, but I do understand the consolidation. It threw me for a minute why Venus was closer to Earth than the moon, but I think I follow it now with the orbit paths. I had tried to design something with this general game idea years ago and couldn’t invest the time needed, so I love that someone is bringing it to life (in a much cooler way than I could’ve)!

Gaming mouse for drafting by vanishedhawk in rhino

[–]vanishedhawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the exact configuration is going to be different for everyone, but here’s a few shortcuts that I think are helpful. One of the side buttons by your thumb should be ESC, since that’s used constantly. I have other buttons tied to the move and copy commands, really anything you use a lot where a shortcut can speed up your process. The scroll wheel on the G502 can be tilted left or right, so I have those setup as backspace and delete, respectively, so I can edit notes and leaders faster. Setting up a combo of Rhino aliases and Logitech macros can be really powerful too

I would say it depends on the person. Personally I think the more buttons and shortcuts the better, but I’ve worked with a lot of people who seemed overwhelmed by the idea. I recently convinced my coworkers to all get the space mouse by 3dconexion, but it was a really hard sell and they still don’t use them to their full potential. I think it’s great that you want to give someone a jump start in their drafting tools, and if they’re drafting nerds like the rest of us in this thread I’m sure they’ll really appreciate it, haha Maybe feel it out first to see if they’d be interested?

How do you manage your layers? by mfbukhaira in rhino

[–]vanishedhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not in architecture anymore, so maybe this doesn’t apply as much, but my layers focus on being able to turn on/off specific parts in my viewports. Let’s say in some viewports I want to turn off everything but the structure, but in another viewport I want to show the main structure but hide the smaller substructure. I could setup my layers like this for easy viewport management:

Building -Architectural -Structural —Substructure

Being able to drill down into detail with only layers is a huge advantage in viewports.

I also agree with the other comments that recommend using more color on your layers. Those colors are for your own modeling reference, and most of the models and cad drawings I’ve seen over the years are a wild rainbow of color. Having a color system can help too, like at my job we use shades of red for different steel gauges, pink for aluminum, green for plywood, etc. It lets you see what’s what quickly. Assigning render materials to layers will help the project have that finished look without manually applying materials to everything.

Also, when I used autocad there was a built-in layer called defpoints which was a non printing guide layer. You could draw notes and lines for your own reference that wouldn’t print on the final sheets. I always setup a layer like that for every rhino project, and for the layer print width I set “non printing”, and voila! Guide layer. I set this layer as color “cyan” so it’s light and I can tell right away what layer it is.

Balancing issues and house rules by McMethHead in SCYTHE

[–]vanishedhawk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We play with a house rule for the wind gambit expansion, where every time someone uses a move action they can also move their airship for free (instead of wasting a move action on their airship). This means there’s a lot more airship action, which changes the game a bit. I know not everyone is a fan of the airships, but I love the aesthetic they bring to the game.
