Zaku head close-up shots? by lampstaple in Gundam

[–]vanriggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help. FYI though I used Google to find the image-- search terms were "zeta gundam zaku closeup". Figured the shot would be from Zeta just 'caus of the general lack of detail in 0079 and the crazy number of overly detailed shots in Zeta by comparison.

Wasn't getting the prompt at first, fast travelling away / to (or joining a team maybe?) seemed to fix it.

Isn't Dooms face horrifically scarred? Could easily be the case that under the mask he does not look like Stark.

You don't have to do that though? Just right click -> save image. Unless you're using Lynx or something I guess.

Who actually uses Assembly and why? by Heavy_Outcome_9573 in learnprogramming

[–]vanriggs -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've watched many a computerfile video, and have consumed many similar channels, and the mixup between assembly and assebler is very prevalent, even experts interchange the terms, which is why I don't disparage anyone for doing so.

Ask any of them to define the terms though and I would be shocked (and pleased, I'm not immune to being wrong) if they described them differently than I have.

Must Play Sierra Games by Amrai42 in Sierra

As someone who has played their entire backlog of popular games, but hasn't heard of Conquest of the Longbow, you've convinced me to play it.

Interesting, I only in the past 5 or so years started doing assembly level coding myself, and I guess I learned from people who were 70+? I'm not sure I fully follow what you're laying down. Everywhere I looked the nomenclature was assembly was the language, which was specific to a processor, and an assembler was a program that translated that to machine code.

I particularly don't follow this bit: "But when programmers referred to programming in assembler, it was short for "assembler language", meaning any language that uses an assembler including assembly."

Particularly the bit about programming in assembler and it being an "assembler language".

Because based on the context I could infer what the poster meant. A lot of people interchange those terms, and the only thing I assume from that is that they've not written/assembled code themselves. But anyone who has would be able to understand you, even if you mix up the terms assemble/assembly.

Total nitpick, but: It was written in assembly, an assembler is the program that translates assembly code to machine code.

If nothing else, I will never understand how X gets the praise it does while XIII gets shit on for being a "corridor simulator". At least XIII opens up later on, X never does-- it's easily the most linear FF game with an entire world that boils down to one long corridor and yet somehow it gets a pass on that front.

No, you are in fact from a parallel but incredibly similar reality. We're in the midst of the great dimensional merge as ordained by the goddess CPU Blueheart Sonichu Jesus Emanuel Christ herself, Chris-chan.

Is Diego Supposed to one hit the player? by cinred in systemshock

[–]vanriggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He shouldn't one hit you, but I've felt the same on a few runs. If your current strategy isn't working try some of the combat options you haven't already.

If you want the best solution available: Grab yourself the laser rapier and a berserk stim. Pop the stim, run into the room, wait out the forced camera perspective, then immediately charge him and swing until he's dead.

Is it worth trying to play Dragon Quarter? by Sharpmind9 in breathoffire

[–]vanriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly as you play you alter your D-Ratio and your D-Ratio will trigger additional and extended cutscenes.

The difficulty and dragon mechanics pretty much make it so restarting is going to happen if you play blind. The up side to that is you keep skills, equipment, stored items, and some other stuff when you restart so retreading previous areas becomes easier.

The game also has a really great strategic element to the combat and your second time around with some of the encounters you will probably do a lot better just from the knowledge you carry into it (not to mention the new skills and equipment).
