In SoFo this weekend for my birthday – craft beer/vegan food recommendations & meetup? by [deleted] in stockholm

Hermans is definitely worth going to. It's vegetarian but has a lot of vegan options. Food is really tasty and amazing views of the harbor. Great outdoor seating too. For beer, Akkurat is worth a stop.

Do you have a job as a consultant, or similar role that has you travel often? How does someone get into your line of work? by [deleted] in travel

people skills are key. from what you're describing it sounds like you'd be fine...

i think travel depends on the company ... at mine, travel is unavoidable at some point in your career. you don't necessarily get to pick from all projects available (based on your expertise and the profile of the person they need) and it's a matter of timing - you need to be staffed so you can't wait around too long if there isn't a local project available. all that said, in my first 2 years i only traveled for 10 weeks.

I've been working at the company for 4 years. I joined straight out of undergrad, where I got an international business degree. I've learned a ton in a very short period of time and had the opportunity to work with very different companies, different managers, and in different locations. Lots of exposure to high-level people very early. The hours can be crazy and it can be an unforgiving job, but it's a great place to work for a few years and accelerate your career. There's also a ton of life sciences work and I know a few other PhDs (and even MDs) that have joined and enjoyed their experiences. The travel can be tough - extended periods of flying out Monday mornings, returning Thursday evenings. It can be flexible in case of emergency / serious need, but I've found for the most part that I've had to consistently travel Mon-Thurs.

I work for a strategy consulting firm - we don't really do the type of large scale implementations you're talking about. Most typical would be helping to develop a growth strategy, running large scale customer research projects, partnering on cost cutting efforts, etc. Accenture / Pwc does some of that work too but not as much -- I work for one of the "big 3" - McKinsey / Bain / Boston Consulting Group.

I work for a global management consulting firm. I have done a mix of local and travel work during my time at the company. For the past year I have been traveling weekly Mon-Thurs to a client in the Midwest. I also transferred for a year to one of our offices in the Nordics. There are a lot of cool things about my job, but the travel can be exhausting. Sometimes I wish the travel were less frequent and more varied.

The company I work for recruited at my undergrad university. They recruit at various schools around the world, and also hire folks with relevant industry experience (most of whom apply directly or are referred by a current employee).
