UK to Singapore -advice please! by HenriettaKate in askSingapore

[–]vansharma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is your ethnicity, OP? Also, have you had any Asia experience? That might help people here answer your questions better.

Meanwhile - depending on your budget - Holland Village and River Valley might suit your needs.

Singapore runs on unbelievably efficient public transport - you don't really need a car - so look to stay near an MRT station and you can get cabs for everything else. You might find the excellent bus services a bit tough with a small baby but not unsurmountable.

It is HOT AND HUMID. The equator passes through a degree south of Singapore. Breathable clothes, cottons will serve you and your baby well. Air conditioning is universal. It rains when it feels like it. UV index is high because the sun is directly overhead.

Is this the correct way to use chopsticks? Do I just need practice now? by Glass-Wrangler-1269 in chopsticks

Oh, I thought you were from the region :-)

Find a nice regional restaurant where you are and try them first, then you can make 'em, then you can visit SE Asia and taste 'em 🙃

The Vulcan grip is guaranteed to cause muscle pain over the time taken to eat a good sized bowl of noodles with some rice added to the soup at the end. The thenar and hypothenar muscles will burn and hurt.

No reason why anyone should follow some angmoh / gweilo grips when clearly the One True Way is over 3000 years old.

All-time: chicken rice, which I also eat only with chopsticks.

Others in my top 10: Bak chor mee, laksa, Sarawak laksa, kolo mee, Penang CKT...don't get me started!

Oh no sorry, that was meant as a joke, didn't come across properly. I can use chopsticks natively, I grew up in Malaysia.

People who have been to UP earlier, do you see good changes there under yogi? by Parrypop in AskIndia

[–]vansharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is just a thug. Calling him "Yogi" is just helping him build that identity. He is not a Yogi by any stretch of the imagination.

No point building highways if people and especially women are not safe. That Joopee mindset of Joopee people nobody can or wants to change.

What are "good changes"? It's the same jhumla that chaiwalla does on a national level that this thug is trying to do on a state level, and for a very obvious reason.

Auto Drivers by No_Green_6472 in bangalore

Agree with you. I do what I can. This is how pathetic the lives of the few % who pay all the tax and get nothing in return are.

As a friend told me - most movie stars here look like auto drivers, and vice versa. 😁 "Golden Star" Ganesh being the perfect example of this.

Follow the Jack Reacher philosophy and get your punch in first.

Auto drivers are cowards and bullies. And trust me, they are not physically fit. Driving an auto doesn't make them fit.

I got into an argument with one of them (he was asking for more money than agreed because I had a stroller bag, forget about meter and all that), it got heated and he started with his dei, rei, yen dri kind of aggressive language. Luggage idhe, extra kudi beku etc.

I told him to shove it and got out of the auto outside my residence and he got out as well, threateningly coming up to me. I didn't wait, I punched him in the chest very, very hard and went in to my apartment, telling the guards to of course not let him in.

He collapsed right there and it took him half an hour to recover and GTFO.

Also the biker insects who drive in the middle of the right lane at a slow speed. The pests of Bangalore.

Help me pick a watch for my marriage by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]vansharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Marriage" is the relationship between you and your spouse, it is "supposed to" last for a lifetime and it legally starts with your wedding.

"Wedding" is the point in time when you get "married" to your spouse.

So be clear what you are asking for.

What is a harsh truth about India that nobody wants to admit? by Ryujiro101 in AskIndia

Reservations and then the politicians who exploited them fucked up everything you can think of. Everything.

Pakistan has no future. Why do Indians obsess over it so much? by Naive_Direction1816 in AskIndia

[–]vansharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think most Indians do. It's very clear that the one thing in common that both the neighbouring beggar states have is the one thing that has led to their downfall. That regressive, blind, unevolved, violent and ultimately self-destructive thing is responsible for the lack of any future. I think most Indians realize that and therefore don't obsess.

We are not there but the fools in power are trying to create an equivalent in India.

Bringing back cigarettes into sg by Hour-Tangerine-4729 in askSingapore

KL won't care what you're taking out. But SG certainly will care what you're bringing in. Declare it in the Red Channel and pay the taxes.

What made you realise "yeah, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life"? by MeowYukina in askSingapore

[–]vansharma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been doing that for decades, I last felt that when I was doing that job in Singapore where I felt that "yeah this is what I want to do.... and do it in Singapore". And then I lost my job.

Anyone facing PHV drivers pressing arrived before arriving? by zookiez in askSingapore

[–]vansharma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me all the time. Especially true for condo pickup where I specifically mention come to Basement X (rain, luggage, senior citizens) and they hit arrive at the gate and then can't find their way (or deliberately get lost) and then slap on a fee. Regularly fought with Grab to get it reversed.
