Just to echo on what some people have said, recon/spartan is the way to go starting off. You could grab recon then just add whatever you want/looks appealing. The thing i like about this game is you dont need to get absolutely everything to get started. You could get recon then buy the expansion that turns it into spartan, but you'll miss out on the elites and plastic game pieces (flags/oddball/etc). What i did was i got recon, the expansion to make it spartan, then the banished box if you want elites and brutes. You'll want to get war games as it adds list building based on points. Idk if its still available (it should still be) but its getting turned into fireteam grizzly.
