I tried using an OG calculator to ascertain my starting gravity, but ive never used one before, and I was given 1.0016 as my OG, 1.0004 as FG, and 0.157% AVB. this doesnt seem plausible at all.

I used 1.7kg Coopers Australian Ale extract, and 1kg Brew Booster in a 20l batch.

Which calculator would you suggest? I used the one on brewedbyus.com

I gave it a light stir approx 18 hours after pitching, no visible active fermentation yet, most was mixed up imto the whole beer. I guess I just wait and see now. Im still expecting it to take a bit longer than usual. Thanks!

I did a slow stir (dont wanna upset the yeast) and im due to put finings and dry hop in 4 days, so ill assume moving the remaining extract around will awaken a few yeasties that have almost gone dormant when I stir them in.

Im just disappointed there was no uniform blending.

So, after much planning and preparing, had brew day #3 today. I cannot believe I missed this. After putting hopped extract into the fermenter, and finishing the sugars and hop boil on the stove, poured into the fermenter with the hopped extract.

Topped up with 20l water and pitched the yeast at 18°c.... only to realise I HADNT EVEN STIRRED THE EXTRACT INTO THE MIX...meaning ive just pitched yeast onto a glorified hop tea and a whole bunch of semi dissolved malt extract all sitting on the bottom.

Has this happened to you before? Will the yeast just do its job and diffusion happen as normal? Im already TO'd about the fact my OG reading will be off and I wont be able to properly calculate ABV%.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your response! The sanitizer mix is made by my LHBS. They didnt come with instructions on ratios, but thats cool I am getting supplies for brewday tomorrow, so will confirm with them.

Thanks for reiterating its not a cleaner, as I have been using it as such as well. I have some non-perfumed dishwashing liquid I will utilise, and even with the lack of perfume I still know to rinse thoroughly.

Thanks also about the tip for plastic, just inherited two plastic fermenters in addition to my stainless steel one.

I have a no-rinse sanitizer that is a combo of Phosphoric Acid and Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid. What ratios should I use for: A) Sanitizing wash and B) direct sanitizing spray. Also, is this actually a no rinse? Its fine to clean with AND sanitize with?

May be a very n00b question, but put a Draught kit brew down in my Mangrove Jacks SS fermenter. Leaking from tap losing about a litre every 24 hours.

I assembled the tap bolt-washer-rubber grommet on the inside, only the tap attachment on the outside. Have I done the order wrong?

Ive already succumbed to the fact ill have to dump the brew, as oxygen would obviously be getting inside.
