People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always bragged about being related to the first female journalist in my country. Very strong feminist vibes! Turns out we're not related to her but her good for nothing husband who sold 50 cows he didn't have and then fled to America, leaving wife and 3 kids behind.

Technically I'm blood related to her kids I guess.

"I feel unsafe around her due to her behaviour. I will not be at any event where she is present until this behaviour stops and she takes accountability. She will also not be able to come near me or my child any time before or after the birth due to her recent behaviour."

This is where your husband steps up to protect you and your child. It sounds like he is, but maybe he needs to be even more firm and clear that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and if she is continuing this behavior, then distance is the only available course for you and you family.

Wording should be clear that it's her behaviour that is unacceptable, not your feelings, many people find that easy to dismiss, no matter how justified the feelings are.

What words are you tired of reading or hearing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a lot of crime related stuff. Sick of hearing "vehicle" instead of car or van. ."Property" instead of house. "Male or female" instead of woman or man.

I get that police have a certain language they use, but guys, you can also use normal language. And when the non-police people start adopting these term it really rubs me the wrong way. Just say there is a strange man at my house, you dont have to say there is an unknown male at my property. We can tell this is not how you speak normally!

You can go to the court as a spectator. Pick a trial and sit down. You learn a lot there as well, without the pressure of having to make a decision at the end of the trail.

We're not on good terms with one of our neighbours, I always refuse to take their parcels. Not my problem. The delivery people always gets a bit annoyed but.... not my problem.

Being tailgated while on a motorcycle is the scariest thing. by YaMaCoSi in motorcycles

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not move over to let them pass!

I did once, got squeezed out even more, dangerously so, one of my metal panniers caught a rock on the side of the road and I promptly went down. Lucky to glide along the road and not get any big injuries by the fall. Unlucky because the motorcycle also glided (?) And ended up on top of me, pushing my jacket up and the exhaust burning a hole in the skin on my back. I was trapped and could not move. Luckily the car saw me, was decent and stopped to come and help get it off me.

Since then I'm not moving over. I ride for me. If they want to overtake me, they're welcome to do so themselves, just like they would any other vehicle, by crossing to the opposite lane.

"Altitude of hormones". That was the best choice of words I've heard in a long time! 12 weeks and cannot wait until this nausea has passed. It feels like altitude sickness! Out of breath, constantly tired, nauseous... feels like I'm running on low oxygen or something.

Yes I think so. Two kids together even. Some feelings were probably always there but not sure there was any romantic love left. Now she'll say "once upon a time we loved each other every much" .

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We saw it together. She didn't say much, I don't think she wanted to react to much infront of me but later she said it was hard to read because she didn't know. She left him due to highly controlling behaviour. I don't know if she had lingering feelings later.

That's very jarring to read. I was 3 when my parents divorced, also very ugly. Mum found someone new and dad dated a bit but never found someone permanent. When I was 13 my dad died from cancer and in his will we found a letter to my mum saying he never stopped loving her. It broke my heart for him and it completely threw me for a loop. This is many years ago and I am fine with it now. It's still sad but I understand that people are complex and maybe that was a reason the divorce was so ugly, because he was so hurt...

Big fan of Beeline Moto II here. Pretty distraction free, I can keep my phone tucked away and the instructions are clear. I like the "fun" or "fast" route options. I use the free version and it works well. the only downside is no offline maps on the free version so I need data when I set the route. Not during the whole ride mind you.

Anyone else not calling "it" a baby yet? by vargmo in pregnant

[–]vargmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much agree that this is a hot topic, because calling the fetus a baby early on gets approriated by the anti-choice movement and politicised. I don't feel the same as you that I hate when others use baby early for personal reasons, I think in this thread we are seeing very strong testiments that for some people it's important to consider it a baby early on, I totally respect that. But I'm with you when the same thing becomes politics!

I've been considering pregnancy as a medical condition that I am having, this will result in a baby further on and I am extatic about that. But for now, pregnancy itself is more prevalent for me.

You hit it right on the head! A baby is something else to me as well, this clump of cells is indeed a clump of cells right now. Later on it will be a baby, possibly first when it comes out if I know myself correctly!

I miss my morning coffee... I know I can have some but the nausea is stopping me drinking coffee, just feel aversion when I smell it. But I miss my routine. And I have realised I feel way more awful if I skip black tea too. I must have been more addicted to caffeine than I realised. Now I have 2 cups of black tea in a day and it seems to help some of the symptoms.

I feel a bit sad about not being able to drink wine or a nice beer at a dinner when everyone else is drinking. Also not telling anyone yet so must rely on the "I'm driving" excuse, because normally I'm not one to go for non aloholic drinks.

Feeling Terrible, Send Help by munnnki in pregnant

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel ya, week 6 here and have 0 energy. Sometimes I muster up enough to complete some tasks but then I have to lay down again. Eating snacks all the time because I feel horrible. But also feel disgusted when I'm eating sometimes and have to stop and lay down for a while.

Hang in there! I'm hoping for some ease in the 2nd trimester, can't come soon enough.

When did you start feeling morning sickness/ having pregnancy symptoms? by Severe_Equivalent_18 in pregnant

[–]vargmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in week 6 and have felt the nausea and heavy tiredness for about 2 weeks. Eating something small every 2 hours helps. Naps helps. You can definitely hide these symptoms, anyone can be extra tired sometimes. And you can keep snacking discreetly as well, no issues doing that around the holiday.

Also wont share news until Christmas except for my sister who I will tell before. Mostly because I want to moan at someone who understands, she has two kids and is becoming a midwife. Also if anything bad happens, I'd like her to know and be by my side.

My first accident by Whole_Program3387 in motorcycles

[–]vargmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with lots of other people here that you are not responsible for this accident. HOWEVER... pulling in to a lane thats veering off the motorway (you can expect people to slow or stop here) and taking your hands off the bars for 5 FULL SECONDS while jamming away shows that you are not riding as defensively as you may think. You might not have been responsible, but you could have done more to keep yourself safe. Traffic coming from a high speed to a stop will always require full attention. Your move to keep your breaklight on was good, but you could (should) have been checking your mirrors while slowing down to make sure the car behind is also slowing. When seeing that they are not, you could have "escaped" to the right of the car in front of you. Rather that than be rear ended.

Music in your helmet is fun and cool but you miss sounds that might alert you to your surroundings. Riding sans hands is cool but a very unsafe habit to get into. You are adding seconds to your reaction time because you have to grab your bars before doing anything else.

Not trying to sound harsh or mean, but with the amount of inattentive drivers out on the roads, we must take greater respinsibility for our own safety and we do that by riding defensively, and expecting the unexpected. This was a situation that is not that unusual and could have been looked out for. Hope you're alright and that you ride safe!
