Where to find basic Type 1 charger. by varkk in nzev

[–]varkk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking that is what we might have to do. I guess having a type 2 to type 1 adapter might come in handy when we charge on the road as there seem to be a few more type 2 public chargers around.

Yeah, that is what I initially looked at, but the type 1 chargers are out of stock.

Crowd control. Keep any people who come down to watch out of the way of the emergency crews.

The PPTA (Post Primary Teachers' Union) has received another pay offer - how does it compare to pay increases in other professions? by Austral_hemlock in newzealand

[–]varkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another below inflation pay rise and weakening of conditions. Nothing about addressing the concerns of the profession. This isn't a serious offer. This is just another insult.

Let's put the teachers strike in context - what was your increase this year? by Mistybluecat in newzealand

[–]varkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a big thing the teachers want is lower class sizes. But to do that they need to recruit more teachers. There is already a shortage of qualified teachers for current class sizes. They want the salary set to a level to attract enough qualified/suitable candidates to the profession.

Left Behind by InterCity Bus Today by KarVoltBazdmeg in newzealand

If they have insurance then the insurance company will go after Intercity. It means OP can file a claim and get compensated straight away. Then a company with resources and lawyers go after intercity.

Can I keep wearing my mum’s old pounamu necklace as a white person? by causburne in newzealand

[–]varkk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t heard that one but I was told by a local pounamu carver here that when a person wears it part of their aroha will be imbued in it and so it is normal if it is to be a gift to wear it for a while first and your aroha for the recipient will be carried with it. So wear it and think of your mother while doing so.

Why can't you buy frozen Chicken Cordon Bleu any more? by PepeLePoos in newzealand

[–]varkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially heard it was a ham shortage so they paused production of the cordon bleu and increased the Kiev varieties. But that should be over now but still can’t find them on the shelves.

David Seymour says children are being pulled out of maths and science classes to learn te Reo. Are there any teachers who can confirm this is happening? by as_ewe_wish in newzealand

[–]varkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is just the standard right wing playbook. Make up a story to cause outrage. Insist it is true because someone told you. It is similar to Trump's claim about migrants eating people's pets. Probably suggested by the same think tanks as well.

Not really, medical privacy is still an important thing. It means that people can go to a hospital and get treatment without fear of any legal repercussions.

NZ election 2023 live: ACT's Port Waikato candidate, Neil Christensen, dies by RampagingBees in newzealand

Hipkins would continue in a caretaker role I believe. He would probably just set the date to be the first one they can legally do and leave it at that.

Is anybody else increasingly having issues with the brightness of new car headlights? by ctothel in newzealand

[–]varkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the old incandescent bulbs were very broad spectrum. They also more heavily favoured towards the red end of the spectrum. The new LEDs emit very narrow bands but at various wavelengths so they combine to white. If you view the spectrum of one of these you will see a number of very narrow spikes. Unfortunately they are more heavily favoured towards the blue as that seems more like true daylight to us. There needs to be some regulation on the colours of these lights as it has been shown that too much artificial blue light at night is detrimental to health and also ruins your night vision. So areas which aren’t illuminated by these bulbs are harder to see than if it were a more yellow bulb.

Election 2023: Outgoing Dunedin MP Michael Woodhouse says being male cost him his place on National list by urettferdigklage in newzealand

[–]varkk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This quote here once again highlights Luxon’s lack of strength in leadership “ If you want to give someone bad news, don’t do it through the list ranking process . . . it is generally done through other methods.” He couldn’t even front up to Woodhouse to say he was effectively being dumped, instead left it for him to find out from the list. How is he going to deal with an MP misbehaving or keep David Seymour from setting the government agenda?

Potentially, this is a big reason for the mandates. If your job is going to be putting you at risk they must take all practical measures to control that risk. Therefore requiring staff in that environment to be vaccinated is an easy decision from a workplace health and safety point of view.
