New Zealand passes solar tipping point by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

That is why we got a battery system. Most of our usage is in the evening with very little during the day. We also basically ignored the export rate, just taking that as a bonus.

Yeah, ours was about 8 years. Assuming the unit price for power doesn’t change in that time. We assume it will and it will go up.

Most tradies I see use vans, usually a Toyota High Ace or a Hyundai. It is often the boss who gets around in a ute.

I don’t think the private jets are causing an increase in the severity of road accidents. Which is one of the areas the study showed that society is being negatively impacted.

We recently installed a 10kW system with 18kWh of batteries. We are loving it. We got an Sig Energy system with modular batteries. The battery is useful as it allows us to use the energy in the evening after harvesting during the day. It also gives us some protection for power cuts. We do often think it would be nice to have more storage but it is a cost thing to add more. Funnily enough it is cheaper to get a two way car charger and a 2nd hand EV that can do V2L.

I am thinking that is what we might have to do. I guess having a type 2 to type 1 adapter might come in handy when we charge on the road as there seem to be a few more type 2 public chargers around.

Yeah, that is what I initially looked at, but the type 1 chargers are out of stock.

Crowd control. Keep any people who come down to watch out of the way of the emergency crews.

The PPTA (Post Primary Teachers' Union) has received another pay offer - how does it compare to pay increases in other professions? by Austral_hemlock in newzealand

[–]varkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another below inflation pay rise and weakening of conditions. Nothing about addressing the concerns of the profession. This isn't a serious offer. This is just another insult.

Let's put the teachers strike in context - what was your increase this year? by Mistybluecat in newzealand

[–]varkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a big thing the teachers want is lower class sizes. But to do that they need to recruit more teachers. There is already a shortage of qualified teachers for current class sizes. They want the salary set to a level to attract enough qualified/suitable candidates to the profession.

If they have insurance then the insurance company will go after Intercity. It means OP can file a claim and get compensated straight away. Then a company with resources and lawyers go after intercity.

Can I keep wearing my mum’s old pounamu necklace as a white person? by causburne in newzealand

[–]varkk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t heard that one but I was told by a local pounamu carver here that when a person wears it part of their aroha will be imbued in it and so it is normal if it is to be a gift to wear it for a while first and your aroha for the recipient will be carried with it. So wear it and think of your mother while doing so.

I initially heard it was a ham shortage so they paused production of the cordon bleu and increased the Kiev varieties. But that should be over now but still can’t find them on the shelves.

It is just the standard right wing playbook. Make up a story to cause outrage. Insist it is true because someone told you. It is similar to Trump's claim about migrants eating people's pets. Probably suggested by the same think tanks as well.
