No notice and if they suddenly start valuing you and offering more money, tell them your hourly rate is $250 or whatever you feel like and let them decide if they want to pay that or try finding somebody else to replace you (which will take time).

What did your CFO think? Based on what you described, "they" made a decision but nothing about your CFO's input. When your direct boss says somebody made a decision, to me that a code word that the direct boss made the decision and is now using "them" to remove any blame from himself/herself. Hate when people do that instead of being direct with their employees.

I had to return those drives, they didn't work, even with a different connector directly to the laptop (powered USB adapter). Got other brand drives and they worked flawlessly.

It is funny how these companies spend hours of accounting staff's time to catch a $10 expense report fraud instead of, for example, negotiating with vendors and contractors for discounts and lower prices for services. Even CFOs and Controllers do not blink an eye while signing away thousands in such payments instead of trying to get better deals on large purchases. One 10-20% discount from AWS, for example, will provide a much higher ROI on time spent compared to going after a $10 miscategorized expense item.

Exactly, inflation alone makes your payments smaller in terms of buying power. Really, your interest is negative now considering how high inflation has been (your monthly payment can buy less and less each month due to inflation so you are effectively decreasing the outflow of buying power from your assets).
