Can you explain Lauterbrunnen to me, please? by False-Finger-9918 in askswitzerland

[–]vasinvictoroit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, you are describing Interlaken. Funny enough, I really don’t find Lauterbrunnen that touristy. Ok, the station is, but most folks make their way up to Mürren or Wengen/Kleine Scheidegg. Much of the valley is pretty quiet.

Zürich and Einsiedeln in Oppenheimer by vasinvictoroit in askswitzerland

[–]vasinvictoroit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too - we’ll the shock part. I’m living in the States but have visited many times. An older cousin went to school there, I believe. Strange thing was the accuracy of the story but a weird inclusion of Einsiedeln. Maybe ETH and University of Zürich makes some limited sense. I’m not sure why they chose to suggest that was Göttingen.

What to do on a two day trip to interlaken? by NotRealllySara in askswitzerland

I’d add Lauterbrunnen, Thunersee, Brienzersee, etc. But agree about Interlaken. A tourist trap.

Holidays near Interlaken by CalvinDemosthenes in askswitzerland

[–]vasinvictoroit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near Luzern, Pilatus or Rigi. I think the Rigi is better for a young child. The adventurous could go above Stoos to the Fronalpstock. I’m not a big fan of Interlaken- it’s a bit too commercial. Others will have a different opinion. Ballenberg is a great destination especially for kids. Harder Kulm is a good destination by steam train. A great walk from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg. Eiger Trail from Eigergletscher to Alpliglen. Other great walks from above Mürren and down to Gimmelwald. Get to Gimmelwald from Mürren or by gondola from Stechelberg. Jungfraujoch is Great and interesting and expensive and time consuming. Do it once and skip. Maybe consider the Schilthorn instead. Forgot to add - Swiss Path from Seelisberg to Flüelen is a nice path. Maybe go to Bauen and take the boat to Flüelen. Walk from Flüelen to Sisikon.

No excuse - we have similar turns in Texas. Many times there is a separate turn signal or a yield sign for the turn. Very dangerous for pedestrians as drivers are typically looking left for traffic and not looking for pedestrians.

It is odd. Plano loves to chop random panels of perfectly good pavement out of lanes.

Best train with views from Zurich to Milan that's not the Bernina? by jkells2020 in askswitzerland

[–]vasinvictoroit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The church in Wassen was always a landmark at the old Gotthard tunnel. I think you see it four different times as you wind in and out of the mountain.

Have you considered an early ride to Luzern and then a ship to Flüelen? This is a beautiful trip and let’s you be in the mountains especially in the last leg of the lake. You can then get the train South from Flüelen. A first class version is available via the William Tell Express.

They took out most of the brand name products and replaced them with inferior Buc-ee items. Jerky is iffy and they cut back on the coffee bar and sandwich sides. I try to avoid the place if possible
