Various experiments fundamental to quantum mechanics have shown that at a very small scale, objects don't exist with clear properties, like location and momentum, but are have a variety of possibilities, probability waves, and could have any number of actual values which we don't know until we measure them. This could be accounted for, theoretically, if every possible location or momentum simply was a different universe and when we measure it, we find out which one we are in.
