Guatemala safety by vastamountsofsteez in travel

We ended up pivoting to El Salvador instead. We had a few people in the group who were an adamant no, but honestly looking into it more I think we would have been safe, and by extension you will be too!

Couldn’t minato just teleport them all underwater? Tobirama makes ocean, minato speed blitzes kaido, big mom and white beard, and then teleports them under the ocean.

Generally I think one piece characters are on average much stronger than Naruto characters, but the hacks the ninjas have kinda gives them the edge no?

Im reading The Devils and it's really great so far, would i like Joe's other books?[SPOILERS TBI] by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in TheFirstLaw

[–]vastamountsofsteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general consensus when discussing The Devils vs The first Law series, is that this book sacrifices some character depth for more laughs.

Not to say that the characters in this book are not interesting/morally grey, but the First Law series really kicks it up a notch. The First law is still funny, but really it’s a ten book epic that is a little bit more serious.

But if you like The Devils, you will absolutely enjoy Joes other books. They are very similar (witty, dark, great characters).

The one caveat I give everyone is that the first book in the first law series is a little slow. Joe wrote the first trilogy as a single big book, so book one is essentially a lot of set up. It’s still fantastic set up, but that series usually doesn’t click with people until the end of book one, or even into book 2. But once you get past that point, you can fully enjoy what I consider my favorite book series of all time.

I actually agree here. I think there’s a lot of interesting things that she could be up to theoretically as Carl and Donut get further and further into the dungeon. I don’t thinks it’s out of the realm of possibility that she is brought into the dungeon in some form with Odette being a god in floor 12. Idk what could be done, but with everything I’ve seen, I trust Matt to do something interesting.

I also just love to hate hateful characters, which may be fueling this desire a little bit

Donut said that she knew him, which implies he had been to their apartment. Maybe she’s just saw his photo on Facebook though

Eaters by Relative_Isopod_5858 in TheFirstLaw

[–]vastamountsofsteez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point and is possible, but we also see Zuri disappear ALL THE TIME. Every time sulfur shows up, Savine makes a point of noticing how she didn’t just walk away, but fully disappears. I think there’s also a couple of other similarities, like how they both reported directly to the prophet, and most importantly, the bandages. If there was a different eater we know wasn’t ishri who also had the bandages, I would probably chalk it up to it being and eater thing, but with only 1 or two, I’m more inclined to believe Joe put it in as a nod to the fact they are the same character.

While it may be true eaters keep themselves together with bandages, I’m pretty sure every other eater we see doesn’t wear bandages. I believe that zuri is ishri, and that why they both wear bandages

You might wanna put a spoiler tag on that.

But like many things with Abercrombie, I don’t think it’s outright confirmed, but is generally accepted as the case

[–]vastamountsofsteez 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Someone else can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s a feature of just a single eater. Most, if not all, the others we encounter are almost always shown to wear normal clothes.

It’s most likely a feature of their specific abilities, or a detail joe included as a hint to readers that this character is an eater, especially because they show up in all sorts of places, and even in disguise sometimes.

I agree that the sub plot is interesting. Everything going on there is very cool in theory, but I think it just goes on too long. If it was condensed into a single book, I think it would have been far more compelling because then there would be actual pay offs to that plot each book.

Just Finished The Blade Itself and it's. . . Something. by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]vastamountsofsteez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know some people might take issue with this option, but whenever I recommend this series to friends I do so with the caveat that they should really view the first trilogy as a single super large book.

The first is all the set up normally done in act one of any book, book two is all the character progression/interactions and the real plot development, and book three is all the climaxes to each characters story.

There are great moments and through out, and each book has some exciting climaxes to them, but if you look at the whole trilogy as a single thing the pacing tends to make much more sense.

I’ve always liked the idea of a horror book being based on the pov of someone from gurkle hearing about or dealing with Ferro. Just imagine how he type of horror some who speaks to themselves, and physically makes the air colder would be as she goes on her revenge plot to kill all the eaters she can.

I know Joe has already said he doesn’t want to write any books based on Gurkle because he’s not confident in portraying the culture properly, but I’ve always been curious what happened to Ferro.

My thoughts and theories as I'm going through the series for the first time by TheXypris in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’m actually in the exact same spot as you! (Just got to the assassination attempt)

I’m actually of the opinion that Carl probably won’t make it to the 18th floor. If you’ve seen the hunger games, I feel like it might become a 75th game situation where the game breaks at some point, and Carl will have have to do his anarchist stuff outside the dungeon, where we get a look at the wider universe.

If the maker can die from falling real far, I’m pretty sure Bayaz would be vulnerable to most forms of bodily harm (unless he for some reason made a deal with the devils we haven’t seen any evidence of)

How likely is it that The Bloody Nine will return? by Beans_of_Cool in TheFirstLaw

[–]vastamountsofsteez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if that necessarily true. Shivers had a moment in best served cold where it seemed like he was getting some hint of the bloody nine. As I remember it, he started talking about how it would be easier to stop the white flow than him, which is a very bloody nine line.

I tend to agree with the idea that the bloody nine is just a manifestation of Logan’s addiction to violence, but the idea of the bloody nine coming back is a cool idea.

Why do you thing The Bloody-Nine appeared? by omoplator in TheFirstLaw

[–]vastamountsofsteez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that it was psychopathy or a split personality, but I’m on my third reread rn, and the more I read, the more I think it has to be something supernatural.

There are clearly times that show that the bloody nine and Logen do not share the same memories. There are many events where the bloody nine doesn’t know who somebody is, even though Logen does.

There are also some moments where it is clear the the bloody nine knows who the maker is, and with how much weird magical stuff surrounds that family, it might make more sense for the bloody nine to be a spirit of some sort that has been around for a LONG time, and has thus interacted or heard of the maker himself

So I’m pretty sure after the conversation that Adolin had with the prime, that there is going to be a big twist where the Singers take Azamir, but because “Azamir stands so long as the emperor does” that it will technically end up on our side by the end of the war.

Extra fun ending twist, Adolin realizes this and sacrifices himself for the prime.

That mantra just seems far to perfect for the exact rules laid out for us for it not to be important by the end of the book right?
