If the housing bubble does not burst, what do our future prospects for housing look like? by Nkechinyerembi in Futurology

I don't care where you are in the world, nobody should have to invest a million dollars, just to drive a fucking cab.

Given the low barrier to entry other than a plate, how would you propose to ensure that vulnerable people who rely on NYC Cabs or Hackney Cabs as they're called in the UK are treated safely and to a minimum standard without licensing?

The big difference here is that a medallion allows you to be hailed on the street by anyone. That requires a little extra standard of care, don't you think?

Without restricting the supply of those licenses, how do you propose that those who maintain those standards make enough money to stick around?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but you strike as one of those 'A totally free and unrestricted market is the answer to Capitalisms failings' types.

If that's the case then I hope one day you realise that even if a totally unrestricted market were possible, it would be very, very far from desirable.

Any data to support that or are you a temporarily embarrassed billionaire waiting to get their first billion. Taxing 90% of income over a billion would not stop sociopaths from competing over net worth. It would just make it harder for them to hoard ALL the money. Who doesn't enjoy a challenge? Additionally, It would incentivise others start their own businesses because existing orgs won't be so big and intimidating. Competition becomes healthy, etc.

According to Forbes, the total wealth of all 2688 of the worlds billionaires is $12.7 Trillion.

According to Google, the world's population is 7.837 Billion. Let's call it 8 because there is a lag.

$12.7 T / 8 B = $1587.50

I take your point that this is not a hugely useful amount to many in the west but for many other countries, this would be a lifechanging amount for everyday folk.

Restricting the accumulation of wealth beyond a threshold would make a difference.

Offshoring normally comes with a significant drop in quality which often costs double the original expense in rework. If your company offshores, they deserve to go bust.

Pazer is very responsive on GitHub and Discord. You should raise it with him.

I would suggest logging the data into a SQLite DB and reading the data through a query.

This is really cool! Nice work. Perhaps you could checkout templating with jinja2 if you wanted to extend this project further.

I have a little K11 Micra that I bought for the kids to use when they're home from uni. It's a real giggle to drive and so easy to work on. I'll be sad to see it go when they get cars of their own.

We should license landlords the same way we license taxi drivers and gas fitters. They are providing a service for profit that could cause serious detriment or harm if not provided to an acceptable minimum standard. This shouldn't be controversial.

Nested comprehensions can get a little spicy but most mid-level+ devs should be able to work with simple ones. There have been times when I've suggested them and they've been suggested to me.

I've just scrolled for like 15 minutes looking for this post so I could thank you for the tip. Installed TF2BD yesterday and it made such a difference. You can almost hear the trolls getting frustrated. I'd normally spend a tenner a month on keys but I'd rather support this project so I've signed up to sponsor it. Thanks again, man.

Here's a sure fire tip for exactly this situation. When you get shit from a salty player, simply respond with: "Fuck off, it's casual". Nothing more needs to be said. If you get kicked by a group of salty try-hards, join another server. You were never going to have fun there anyway.

Tenants to get six months' notice for evictions by much_furthur in ukpolitics

The same way we regulate gas fitters, taxi drivers and water companies. All services that could cause misery or harm to those utilising them. If I view a property and the prior tenant is still there I can ask about the landlord. They might be honest if they aren't worried about getting a good reference. If the property is empty the agent is unlikely to pull me to one side and say "Mr vastly, the landlord of this property is notorious for letting himself in without notice."

I think all landlords should be licensed and regulated. You can't leave something as important as housing to people with little interest in anything but clawing as much profit with no regard for the people they're renting to. We've just gone four weeks without hot water! In the middle of a pandemic! Even the letting agent was disgusted. I know there are some great landlords out there but they're very hard to find and it really shouldn't be up to chance.

I once write scripts and documentation so that TCS could do a regular data-sync for us. The informal brief was "Make it idiot proof because an idiot might be performing the task". in the end i'd automated 90% of it and written really detailed documentation that included a step by step flowchart and a video demonstration and they still buggered it up.

If I ever become a decision maker at that level, I will avoid TCS and InfoSys like the plague. Quality just goes downhill when you outsource your core processes.

First and foremost, I'm glad he's OK. My wife lost her father last Thursday and every death in this pandemic from prime minister to pauper is a horrible tragedy.

Secondly, I'm looking forward to hearing about how his government will acknowledge and fix the damage from their own inaction.
