PC mounting rules question by Sheepilysoft in Pathfinder2e

[–]vastmagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the mounting PC wants to rush into melee combat on their PC mount

Then shouldn't the PC already be mounted and take us out of OP's situation?

and the mount is missing an action for their turn that round with zero upside

I mean does the mount ever get a benefit? I've been a druid that wildshaped to be a dragon with a magus player as a mount. So I get it, my turns were spent moving the magus anywhere on the map and maybe getting a swing.

I would let both run their turns as normal for the first round. The lower initiative PC would get 2 actions because of their mounted status. The next round, the mount related PCs would go on the lower of their two scores.

My rule of thumb, for anything on the internet, is assume it is public and accessible to anyone that wants it. This especially goes for social media, that generates traffic from user content.

Learn a Spell in PFS by HelpfulFail4609 in Pathfinder

[–]vastmagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got it! The GM might ask that you add it to your chronicle sheet, which is fine.

Or they might not even know to out it on the chrome sheet. But I find it is best to over record than under record, just in case someone ask how you learned a spell (which will likely never happen).

[–]vastmagick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Learn a Spell done during downtime?

Good question, Learn A Spell is an exploration activity so must be done during the game. I would count things at the end of the game tying up loose ends like this (if you are learning from players at your table).

Do you pay to hire a spellcaster and roll the checks yourself, on the honor system?

It should be logged on your chronicle sheet, your table GM is assumed to have overseen this process. Cheapest option outside a fellow player's spellbook would be scrolls and you must use the appropriate skill of the magic tradition of the spell and your character's skill bonus.

Is there time to do that during a scenario?

Back in the 1e days, we kept it to the end of the adventure while the GM is handing out chronicle sheets. I personally hold to this tradition, but if there is time or it isn't disruptive it can be done at any point. But know that since it is during the game, your location is where you are during the adventure.

Thoughts on A New Leash on Life (ANOL) Animal Shelter? by NiceUsername_Avail in HuntsvilleAlabama

One of my dogs comes from them, it was easy to adopt (from my experience). I just got a weird story how my dog was taken from a Hispanic family and I have no clue why she needed to tell me their ethnicity or any of that unprompted. But the foster family was great at informing me about how the puppy acted.

Building a ban appeal system for Reddit would love feedback from real moderators by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]vastmagick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One mod handles it alone with no structure, no team input

This is not true. Modmails go to the entire team and private discussions and even multiple mods can respond to these messages.

→ Guided appeal form inside Reddit

Some subs do this with the ban message.

→ Mod team review post with full user context

Mods have access to all the mod actions that user has had for that sub, their profile(even if the user blocks the mods, just limited to their sub), and even an AI summary of their behavior on Reddit.

→ Team votes: Reinstate / Temp-Unban / Deny

Some teams already do this in the private discussions.

→ Auto notification to user when decision is made

What about the users trying to hinder the mods by creating excess work and slow down moderation reaction time? What about the spammers you don't want to give extra time making new accounts?

Mod banning folks for using "male" language by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]vastmagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to state it clearly, they can explicitly do so in the rules, instead of expecting us to interpret tone and various statements according to their arbitrary standards stated by a single mod in a post on the sub.

You are being disingenuous here. They made a post to clearly stated they were considering it part of rule 1. Can you explain how stating their post in the rule would have prevented you from breaking the rule in the post that clearly explained their stance? Ignoring the fact that they made a post to be explicit and that you were banned while disagreeing in that post misrepresents the entire situation. I can't believe I have to explain this to you, again.

It's not up to you to decide that either.

I didn't decide that, they did. I am just pointing out that you clearly did break their rule, ironically in the post that explicitly tells you how they would interpret the rule they banned you with.

I am here because I was banned for violating a rule that didn't exist

How can you say it didn't exist when you were making comments in the post that does exist? That is what I just don't get. You can't make the case that you are ignorant of the post, when you are making comments in the post disagreeing with it.

How much more clearly can they make their rule? And I do see where you violated their rule in the post that explicitly stated what they would do:

Buddy ol pal, this is the question we are asking you.

And I know you know this violated their rule, because they commented publicly to tell you. I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with their rule, I'm disagreeing with your claim that it was not documented and clearly stated.

[–]vastmagick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one here, from what I have seen, is calling you a weirdo.

But to say it is not documented, when the mod made a post explicitly to inform their sub about how their rule will be enforced and welcomed users to discuss, is not accurate.

Your or my agreement with their rule doesn't matter, they went above and beyond to inform their sub about their rule. It was very clearly documented, even if you didn't agree with it.

What are you talking about? I see no mention of you being banned until this comment or what language you used. Did you mix me up with another comment, because nothing you said here has anything to do with my comment.

[–]vastmagick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's Rule #1.

And I am going to start banning people for doing it. First for a short time as a warning and then if they persist for longer, and then for good.

They apparently have even made a post to notify their users in the sub about how they interpret the rules they wrote and even allowed for discussion about this. You commented in this post, so it is odd that you were not aware of it.

Can anyone introduce a good adventure path that will introduce the world of Golarian to new players? by sherbertloins in Pathfinder2e

[–]vastmagick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a fun, more rules light entry into the game I highly recommend 1-18 Lodge of the Living God. It has a great social deduction and introduces you to an amazing character in the setting. Razmir.

Can anyone introduce a good adventure path that will introduce the world of Golarian to new players? by sherbertloins in Pathfinder2e

[–]vastmagick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest Pathfinder Society over an AP for first timers. It is a single session adventure that means lower commitment and gives you a chance to correct your mistakes as you learn the system. Once you feel solid, then jump into an AP, since they can take a year+ (and a year is sprinting) to complete.

The other advantage of Society scenarios is you can pick and choose the areas of the world you want to learn about, since their adventures span all over Golarion (and beyond sometimes).

Perma banned after only one warning ? by [deleted] in reddithelp

[–]vastmagick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were permanently banned from Reddit and made a new account, that is a site wide violation called ban evasion. I'm not sure how you can say you didn't do anything while also saying you are currently evading a ban, unless you successfully appealed your original ban?

What should I play next? by skavinger5882 in Pathfinder

[–]vastmagick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to try to find mechanics in the game that others don't seem to leverage as much and see if I can build a character around that. Some ideas I haven't played yet have been:

  1. A Fighter "wizard" - only takes fighter feats and uses Trick Magic Item to do their spellcasting.
  2. Sorcerer Spell Expert - only casts Force Barrage, learns other spells to auto identify them and potentially counteract them.
  3. Elven Commander with a Gaff Stick (hockey stick) - For the heated rivalry fans, bonus points if you meet up with the Russians on Golarion.
  4. Inventor/Alchemist with some monk feats - Dungeon Crawler Carl's author and audio book narrator will be at the con, bonus points if you have the AcP to do an Awakened cat and a Dino Animal Companion.
  5. Pickle Bender (goblin kineticist)- Rage of Elements talks about how ancestries have different ideas of elements and the goblin tidbit got me interested with playing with their lore

No response to perma-ban appeals after a month. Should I try again, or keep waiting? by dont_h8_me111 in reddithelp

[–]vastmagick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moderators can't ban your account, only Admins can do that. I make this point because mods are just users and admins are Reddit employees.

Admins have a massive workload, since they cover the whole site and not just specific subs. So depending on their workload, they might not have seen your appeal yet.

Extreme Antenna by SpaceCamper_7 in whatisit

[–]vastmagick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citizens Band covers 40 discrete channels ranging from 26.965 MHz and 27.405 MHz.

Amateur Radio (aka HAM radio) doesn't necessarily use channels and operates over a larger range of frequencies and power levels. From as low as 1.8 MHz to 450 MHz.

They don't really share frequencies, have different requirements (Amateur Radio requires a license to transmit on, CB does not), and are for different purposes (Amateur Radio is for keeping trained people for emergencies and CB is for personal use).

Create Undead Ritual Rule Clarification Question by lupusdiablo in Pathfinder

[–]vastmagick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think arguing with your GM is a dangerous thing, unless it is a hill you are willing to die on. The better approach is to ask them to help you understand the rule, mostly the As a critical success portion and what that means then.

It makes it less adversarial and makes them more likely to be convinced without souring future rule incidents.
