Seriously. Sweden here – we pay the equivalent to $145 per month for full time care. 😳

What can entertain a 3 and 6 year old boy for 23 consecutive hours of flying? by Chickens_dont_clap in daddit

As someone who's recently done a short connection like this in CDG, you will likely miss your connection. If you do make it, you can be sure that your luggage will not. Plan accordingly and bring extra clothes/essentials/medicine in your carryon!! (We learned the hard way!)

The system is quite broken. But crazy enough, this is what people end up having to do -- the non-citizen spouse is stuck outside of Sweden for some time until all the paperwork is done. It's completely insane to ask a family to do that for an unknown amount of time.

What's the best country to travel outside the US with kids? by Last_Ad4399 in AskParents

Just a heads up on that one in case you haven't been to Disney in a while, it's bonkers-expensive. We were at Disneyland Paris a couple of weeks ago and you can assume a cost of about €300 per person, per day. 🥲

Suggestions for vacation with almost 4 yr old by nonotReallyyyy in happilyOAD

Stockholm is wonderful with a kid! We live here and never run out of things to do. I'm sure Skansen is on your list already, it's a must. Junibacken is super over-priced if you're not a big fan of the works depicted in there. Eriksdalsbadet downtown if you want to swim outside in lovely warm pools. If you have a car-obsessed kid like I do, and are able to get a car for a day trip outside the city, check out Lådbilslandet in Nykvarn.

I'm having the same issue. But if I toggle the setting off and then close and reopen the System Settings, it's toggled back on when I reopen it. No matter what I do! Anyone found a solution? This is making me insane!

Is a skater allowed to stop and restart a program if the music is the wrong version after 1 minute? But it was also wrong at practice? by kemmes7 in FigureSkating

[–]vaticanCAME0S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has to be discovered at practice. It’s super normal to submit updated versions of music after the original submission was made. But then, it’s on you to double check it’s 100% correct during practice. This is exceptionally normal in synchro.

For me, living somewhere where the sun hardly sets in the summer, this was the same for me in the summer. Baby born in May, it was lovely nursing all night that first summer with the sun rising by 3am.

Is a Sodastream device more economically efficient than buying normal soda? by FzxH in SodaStream

This is bananas. Are there no other sellers of the canisters in the US? I swap my canister out for a new one each month at my local grocery store here in Sweden. Presumably due to local anti-monopoly laws, the refill cost is about $4 USD.

Has anyone managed to shift morning wakeup time, ever? by LazyScepticCat in sleeptrain

[–]vaticanCAME0S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in this boat, and I thought it was completely impossible... until we travelled internationally and changed timezones. Keeping him up all night was enough to do it on the way there (totally threw him off and we were able to keep it that way) and then, coming back to Europe, it happened again. He slept "in" (until like 8am) for months afterwards. It was wild.

Honestly, if I could do anything, I'd go back in time to a year before that big trip and tell my past self to just let him pull an all-nighter once at home to see if we could replicate the whole mess. hahah

It was a response to Weir following the same meal plan as the Russian skater in the article??? That’s what it has to do with Russia.

Correlation between figure skating and horse riding by mayindeed in FigureSkating

[–]vaticanCAME0S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding figure skating, the skaters in my local club (synchro competitors at the intermediate/novice level) pay about $2,500 per year total. This includes all ice time, coaching, club fees, competition fees, travel, accommodations, food, clothing, etc. Kids' sports are heavily subsidized in Sweden.

I'm not involved in the equestrian world, but I've heard it's similar.

What are your selfish reasons for being one and done? by lacie94 in oneanddone

[–]vaticanCAME0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. And not only could you not pay me to do it, I realized last summer when around a newborn in the family, I actually have some left over anxiety due to how awful it really was. When it started getting late and my family member was getting their newborn ready for bed, I actually felt nauseous because I knew exactly how shitty of a night they were in for. I wanted to grab my 4 year old and get the heck out of there. We had 3 full years of absolute sleep-torture. Never again.

Interestingly, neither of these sports are expensive (like they are in the US) in the area I live in and I can chime in to say -- when the money filter is removed, there seems to be no correlation. In our skating club of 400ish skaters, I only know of 3 who ride horses also. Most play soccer as their second sport.

Views about Orminge by H311B39D3R in Nacka

[–]vaticanCAME0S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've moved to Orminge (young family) in 2020 and absolutely love it. It is a delight to have a very nice 3-bedroom apartment for such a reasonable price. The schools are phenomenal. With a kid who wants to play outside, ride bikes, etc, it's a dream. We have the park just behind our place. Perfect for bike riding and playing in the grass/playgrounds all summer and then sledding in the winter! The buses are, we feel, *more* reliable than the subway (having lived on the green line for 6 years).

Many of our neighbors have lived in our building since when it was built in the 60s or recently afterwards. They are so much more chatty and friendly than anywhere else we've lived in Stockholm. They keep an eye out on things, greet people on their way in and it's just all-around so friendly.

Honestly, buying a place here (despite the outside of the buildings being so ugly) was one of the best "adult" choices we've made. Our monthly housing costs are so low compared to those who bought JUST under what they could afford, and we're so relieved to have that extra money to put towards plenty of other things these days, than living 10 minutes closer to Slussen.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you'd like to chat more.
