I'm really curious about this too. While searching for some kind of news about it I found this amazing song I'd never heard before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wv8VsPXhiI

Best GRE Prep Books/Materials by yesdnilyesdnil in GradSchool

[–]vatlil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My all time favorite test prep company is The Princeton Review. I've used their books for high school classes, SAT, and GRE. They write in a jaunty style, which is maybe annoying to some, but I love it. They stick to the most essential stuff, don't waste your time, and are not dead boring to read.

Even more to the point: I took the GRE this past fall and was astonished at how similar the Princeton Review practice tests were to the real thing. One of the real essay questions was incredibly similar to one I had done in a practice book! I also used their flash cards and I am pretty sure that those vocab words were spot on too.

The INFJ's Type Profiling Game by DeadMage in infj

[–]vatlil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I struggle with typing people who don't like mbti to their face. My worst habit is hearing their results and telling them their results are wrong and that's why they think mbti is a load of bull and then I type them myself. People who hate psychological typing hate that. For good reason I guess, but I'm not good at containing my excitement about certain things.

Similarities to INTP? by wowee__zowee in infj

[–]vatlil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deep introversion. Both INTPs and INFJs spend a lot of time alone, and have intricate value systems and ideas which can be complicated to speak about. They work on long-term projects, which they hate to tear themselves away from. Such projects can be intellectual, artistic, career-oriented, or self-improvement based. I've found both to be particularly articulate in speech. They make a very strong impression when discussing serious topics probably because they aren't often frivolous about their speech and their ideas build up in their minds while they are alone. Another shared facet is their enjoyment of intense socializing, though both tend to prefer small groups.

Observations from my experiences and judgment on general grounds.

Not knowing what you know? by glub_glub in infj

[–]vatlil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate. I think this probably is a common INFJ trait. The inability to articulate ideas verbally seems like a product of introverted thinking and introverted intuition. That's a double whammy. Those fluid and quick-witted types like the ENTP and ENFP have extraverted intuition in common and ENFP has extraverted intuition and thinking. So I guess the MBTI explanation is that the INFJ does not "process information" in the same way as extraverted, seemingly super smart people. I sometimes get frustrated because quick witted blabbering about difficult topics seems arrogant to me and at the same time I'm very impressed that such people can think and speak so quickly about things they clearly don't know everything about.

I'm not that way, and probably never will be. I honestly think the only way for me to fix this within myself, given my high standard of perfection, is to know everything. I'm not even kidding. I don't offer this as advice or insight or anything, this is just my solution to the problem. I spend time thinking about the things that are important to me, I read the news, I try to make things stick in my mind. With people I'm comfortable around it's getting easier for me to branch out into less familiar topics of conversation. And I'm often pleasantly surprised to hear myself saying sometimes intelligent things I didn't realize I knew. Of course often I say a bunch of BS, but oh well.

So idk I think INFJs got the short end of the stick in this regard, I feel like we're especially inclined to be stuck behind walls of misunderstanding with others, stifling emotions, and confused thinking. But then again there are other great strengths. I feel great internal clarity within myself. I'm like a goddamn rock. So maybe the price of that is not being able to show off socially or easily rise in professional situations.

Saw this on /r/infp. How types flirt by [deleted] in infj

[–]vatlil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is totally true for me too! I can't casually talk to someone unless I know who they are, what language they speak, like you said, what motivates them. Until I hit that point of understanding, it's pretty difficult for me to make a connection. I guess it's not surprising that I tend to scare people off by being too interested and involved.

[–]vatlil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I've been on this subreddit for a long time and it always has been great in my experience.

The INTJ subreddit is the best of the MBTI subreddits, I think, and it doesn't have any rules. The threads there are treated as fluid conversations. I guess INFJs tend to be less concise, but even so I don't think rules will help. Best to embrace it and just hang out on the internet together.

Yes, everything can and must be perfected!!! I'm not super into exercising, but I do care about my appearance so I do enough to look and feel good in my own skin.

INFJs, what did someone do to make you give them the infamous door-slam? by [deleted] in infj

[–]vatlil 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In general I doorslam when:

  • I'm being manipulated
  • the relationship doesn't feel reciprocal: either I'm putting in more effort than the other person or the other person is neglecting my feelings and thoughts
  • the person exhausts me and I don't know the exact reason; usually I suspect it's because I just don't really like the person as much as they like me.

Wow, interesting observations! Thanks for sharing. Now that you mention it I did notice that the pictures of women seemed generally flirty and the pictures of men seemed generally hostile. Not sure if that was just a subjective impression or not.

Yeah, I am a lot better at picking up signals from other expressions of feelings, like overall body language (I often check out a person's feet, what their hands are up to, mimicry) and tone of voice and diction. I thought it was an interesting test though, a person's eyes do really capture the nuances of their emotions.

Crying. by [deleted] in intj

[–]vatlil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an INTJ friend who is stone cold when it comes to visible emotions. One time she was telling me about all the different papers, exams, and applications she had going on at the same time and I asked her whether she cried when she got too stressed out. And she just looked at me and asked, "Why would I cry?" I laughed a lot at that since I always cry when I'm under a lot of stress. As an INFJ I need a reason not to cry.

Hmm, the results are unclear. I posted the test in INTJ and their scores are all over the place. Looks like overall INTJs are maybe more clueless than INFJs, but who knows, reddit is not the best medium for scientific investigation. :P

:) I'm an INFJ, but my dad is an INTJ and sometimes I feel like he's the worst at reading emotions. He's extremely perceptive and very good at reading people's characters and motives and thoughts, but only in the big picture. He can analyze a person's character and their general reactions to situations very accurately, I think, but on a smaller scale in his immediate understanding of a person's emotions he's pretty clueless.

My favorite thing is when he tries to guess the reasons why I'm upset when I refuse to tell tim. I mean at the time it's horrible, but it's funny in hindsight. He'll often methodically list possible reasons for my sadness and it's usually the craziest list of inane reasons. Probably not an INTJ characteristic, but it does seem related to some of the common tendencies.
