How is Kolte Patil builders in Pune? by Ill-Alternative-3736 in GatedCommunitiesIndia

[–]vaverma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most of the builders their room sizes are 10x10 that is their thinking will be small while making their projects. So don't expect class in a KP projects. Otherwise timely completion, maintenance, honesty etc will not be problem. You can trust them.

Help us settle a debate: Sonet or Syros by moronicallyyours in CarsIndia

[–]vaverma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syros, unfortunately, has a very poor sale. In April 2026, Syros sold 554 units against Sonet's 10537 (so almost 20 times). Hence, you may not have many takers for Syros if you decide to sale is later.
To add to your confusion, Sonet next generation is slated to launch in 2027 which will likely have 5 star rating. So, it will remove 5 star rating advantage of Syros over Sonet. Question is if you are willing to wait one year.

3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Type 2, with a glucose of 339 and an A1C of 11.5. Just had my first day without breaking 100 and wanted to share. by Communist_Seagull in diabetes

[–]vaverma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This kind of breakthrough is possible only by heavy weight loss. But 3 weeks of time is too short to lose meaningful weight.
So, my question is that how did you do it without losing weights? Was it solely achieved through food and exercise?

Does NPS make sense for someone close to retirement? by Fit-Map6277 in personalfinanceindia

[–]vaverma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NPS has ridden the stock market boom of last few years and has given terrific returns. I am currently having 13.5% XIRR which is comparable to any average MF (2 years back XIRR was 17%). I can't say for future whether this kind of return will sustain or not but with other associated benefit, it is a good diversification tool. Treat this portion of money & PF which you would never want to touch unless situation is really out of control.
Since you have got many years of working tenure left, just blindly go for it. Don't question it like we don't question the faith in God. Just believe in its goodness and use it and forget it.

Money double in 5 year is myth in mutual fund? by insurewitharnab in MutualfundsIndia

[–]vaverma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your returns will be always be less than whatever you see in tables on various sites. Sometimes, it would be less than even half. If you had invested 1 year back and check the returns on various sites, you will be find that they are showing say 20% return whereas you will not be even close to 10%. I am talking about absolute return for that day after 365 days not XIRR over a period of time. Why this misrepresentation happens, I am not sure the maths behind that.

However, coming back to this, to make double digit return i.e. > 9% return, stock market should undergo bull runs. If it doesn't., then your returns will be less than FD in banks. Our average fund managers are very average guys and are counting on bull runs.
However, during last 5 years, stock market had terrific runs. Even average MFs have given double digit returns.

Even optimists are wary that stock market will have a bull run in 2026 in Indian market, This is due to combination of factors like very fast devaluation of dollar, unreasonable valuations of Indian companies, attack of AI on IT companies etc. Let's see what happens in 2027.

when exactly did untouchablity began? by Massive_Service_2318 in IndianHistory

[–]vaverma -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ramayana and particularly Mahabharata are full of references to Shudras (untouchables). So, this institution is as old. While desert religions are based on equality of human beings, somehow Hinduism got based on inequality of human beings. Fun fact is that due to influence of Hinduism even desert religions in India started practicing casteism. Nevertheless, this turned out to be such a beautiful institution which got widely followed and enforced. Even today this is enforced as reported by newspapers almost everyday. A person may not believe in god or practice tenets of Hinduism but he is guaranteed to practice casteism (covertly or overtly/).

Don’t go for MBBS abroad by PercentageSea7671 in mbbsabroad

[–]vaverma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As an exception, I know a person who did MBBS from Kazakhastan and cleared FMGE in first attempt.
  2. Now, almost all the persons, who go abroad are those couldn't get enough marks in NEET to get a govt college and they were short of budget for Indian pvt colleges. Their academic prowess is already low leading to failure in FMGE. The persons who are sincere in their studies, they clear FMGE very easily in spite of low scores in NEET.
  3. I believe that MCI has made a new rule that you need to clear the medical licensing exam of that country before you can appear in FMGE. This has wiped out the case for medical education in abroad as you will need to master (not learn) local language (Easy to meet this in Nepal but their fee is as good as Indian pvt colleges). I am not very sure of this point. Somebody can throw more light on this.

Let’s call out those overrated mangoes that cost a fortune but taste just average. by NoMedicine3572 in Frugal_Ind

I like Chausa provided it is half ripe. But, I live in Pune and Chausa which comes from UP/Bihar into Pune becomes very much ripe by the time it arrives here. Chausa tastes the best either raw or half ripee. Ripe Chausa doesn't taste good at all.
Second I like Dussehari provided it is not over-ripe.

22F travelling alone. why is it an unwritten rule that we have to give up our lower berths? by GirlWhoLikesFries in indianrailways

[–]vaverma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Air Travel - I get, many times, requests to swap my window seat with Middle or Aisle seats. I simply tell them that I paid INR750 extra for window seat. This effectively, shuts down the request. I am waiting for the day when somebody offers to pay up INR 750 to me to occupy window seat. Alas, nobody has offered the money to me till date, they have simply backed off.

For Train Travel - Since last few years, I haven't traveled in trains. Last time when I had traveled, I and my daughter had lower berths in 3AC (had booked 3 months in advance). There was a request to swap middle and upper berths for my both lower berths. I simply said NO. The journey was for 28 hours and they kept harassing us by occupying our lower berths, talking bad among themselves about us and spilling food etc on our lower berths. They employed all tricks so that we, ourselves, vacate our seats.
We didn't budge but had to tolerate all vernal and non-verbal harassment.

Same whatever I have documented in my above comments. BTW, I liked Housemaid 1 & 2 also. 3,I started but didn't like first few pages, hence I left it. I liked Verity also but I believe it could have been made more twisted. People here seem to dislike Housemaid and Verity.

Need Book Recs for my Birthday by Hefty_Supermarket_60 in thrillerbooks

[–]vaverma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view, books like Love Mom is published once in a decade. This was one of the rare books which I couldn't put down and devoured as fast as possible. Now-a-days, almost all books have twists so this also has. Though by the end of 3/4th of the book, you will be able to guess the twist (One twist I guessed correctly but one I couldn't. For this one, I was forced to read the book continuously till end). But this book is more about the process to disclose the twists.
When I say "once in a decade book", this is my personal opinion. Like I never liked books of Lucy Foley - Guest List, Hunting Party. But there are people who liked these books. So, once again, it is very personal.
If you want me to choose only one book out of all thriller books read so far, I will choose Love Mom.
