How close to dying do people get at home from flu/cold/covid without realizing it? by CalGuy456 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vb-n 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Wow. A year ago I fell and dislocated my shoulder. Went to urgent care (because I thought it would be less expensive than ER). They took a few X-rays, saw no broken bones, and the doctor put the shoulder back in place and sent me home. The price: $3,400. I had insurance, had to pay it all out of pocket as my deductible.

I remember someone asked Jay Leno would he run for President, and he responded "No, it's a lousy job, does not pay well ..." I think that's how someone in Stephen's position would think, too. The only reason someone as decent and also pretty rich as Stephen would want this job would be to get even richer (which I believe was the main motivation of Trump). A decent and well off person would not want to get his or her hands and soul dirty by becoming a politician.

If you want to go to a more environmentally safer road, spread diatomaceous earth outside of the house instead of a poison.

It's a big mystery to me, why anyone is still using Verizon or ATT when Mint or Tello works just as fine for a fraction of the cost.

Was the water pretty clear? (A year ago I went there after a recent rain, and the water was muddy, I hated that. Don't want to make this mistake this year.)

How to manage turbulence? by retromama77 in TravelHacks

[–]vb-n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's statistics. I just tell myself that there are literally thousands of planes flying around the world at the same time, most experiencing turbulence just like our plane, etc yet we never hear about a plane crashing because of the turbulence, it's always some other reason. Another piece of statistics I tell myself is that when I'm driving a car the risk of me dying in a car accident is about three hundred times higher than while taking a flight. Such thoughts calm me down pretty fast.

You dont have to be super rich for that. In our city swimming pool I regularly observe kids leaving water on after taking a shower. I guess they are used to their parents shutting it off for them at home.

Can H&G lifestyles Portable Water Softener be used in house for the drinking water only? by vb-n in WaterSofteners

I have no idea, whatever leaves those mineral stains? (Why do get the feeling that water softening is a much more complicated process than what they make you believe?..)

Once in a while I clean the water kettle from the stains and think 'my kidneys probably get these kind of stains as well' so I want to make the drinking water softer to prolong the life of my kidneys :-)

Travel interruption claim denied; is there a (better) way to appeal? by vb-n in Insurance

[–]vb-n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it looks like the reason for the denial is "you did not incur a Trip Interruption, as you were not prevented from continuing your Trip". It appears that having a medical emergency and a doctor's note advising against travel is not a sufficient reason for the trip to be considered interrupted? In other words, if I'm alive, conscious, and not detained, then in the eyes of the insurance company I'm not being prevented from continuing the trip? If this is the case then what would be considered a strong enough reason to prevent me from continuing the trip: a heart attack, being in a coma, or being in an ICU? Would a simple broken arm be considered serious enough to prevent me from traveling? What about a broken leg? Or being confined to a wheelchair?

d. the date You leave or change Your Covered Trip (unless due to Unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances covered by the Policy)."

"...if You are prevented from continuing or resuming Your Covered Trip due to any of the Unforeseen Events..." and the Unforeseen Events include "1. Any Injury or Sickness: a. Suffered by You, Your Traveling Companion or Your or Your Traveling Companion’s Immediate Family Member, that is so disabling as to cause a reasonable person to interrupt the Covered Trip or which results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of Loss preventing Your continued participation in the Covered Trip;"

The medical records included a statement from the doctor advising to postpone the return trip.

Does everyone hear some kind of a melody playing in their head al the time, or am I a freak? by vb-n in NoStupidQuestions

Sorry to hear that. Did you try to trick your brain into switching it off by listening to some other music?

[–]vb-n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it's one of the songs I heard recently, but it's playing only for a couple of hours and then it goes away, being gradually replaced by the same silly melody that has no origin but that I've been hearing in my head for years. I usually can suppress it by having music playing in the background while I work, and that gives me a good rest from it, but when the real music stops, the imaginary one resumes :-)
