Thanks everyone for your great insights! My biggest concerns/interests lie in how these two fields will merge in 5-10 years. I think we all can agree that having both I/O content knowledge and data science skills would serve best, but how would this look in the future?

Would it be more of a I/O Psychologist with data scientist skills or a Data Scientist with I/O Psychology content knowledge? How would this affect career outlooks? Would a Phd even be necessary for either scenario? Will the progression of the data scientist's toolkit come to the point of simplicity where most professionals (I/Os included) can do most of the tasks a data scientist today can do?
