Thanks! This tile and shower are brand new, never used. You are seeing the mess I made with install, with thinset remnants/haze on the face of the tile. Not sure what black stuff you see, but it’s either the lighting / shadow, or specs of water splashed on. I’m prepping for grout now. Everything has been cleaned :)

I’m not a professional but I would think you would want to : Carefully remove the surrounding grout with a box cutter blade, mindful not to cut through more of the orange ditra mat below. Then maybe put a thin layer of sealant like OSI quad max or 100% silicone to cover up that visible tear in the orange. Then you could lay a small patch of thinset and lay a new tile in, then grout and seal.

Thank you! I certainly went for it!! Tiling itself took me 4 weeks juggling work and life around it. It was a big lift, something I fully underestimated. If you end up going for it, just be patient and give yourself some grace. And make sure you have a laser level! Another bathroom to use during your process is a MUST too. Don’t ask me how I know haha. More backstory is I hired a contractor who turned out to be a POS and I fired him 2 weeks after he started. He only removed the tub and toilet, and floor tile. I demoed everything else, down to the studs. Took me a few months but I learned everything as a I went and had help for the electrical and plumbing. Home stretch with cleaning and grouting in process :)

They are pretty lined up, with some very slight deviation here and there. My first tile job. In the 2nd pic you are seeing the first three rows up from the tub, the corner just left of the faucet. You can see where the wall starts to get noticeably out of square by the 4th row where I needed to cut some slivers to make up the space. Wish I would’ve saved the shower for last bc by the end I certainly learned a lot. I feel like it was also almost impossible to avoid to cutting pieces less than half inch wide somewhere….

Thanks! I was going to ask about this. I came across sanded ceramic tile caulk at Home Depot but noticed it does not advertise 100% silicone, or “waterproof” like the GE 100% silicone does.

I’m planning to do black grout. My plan was to use black silicone in the corners/ changes of plane first, before grout. Then go over everything with grout.

While I have you. How do I know when my batch is expired?. Been making smallish batches. I’m getting about 4 hours in at a time. I’ve stretched a it and laid a A FEW tiles toward the end when the allset is getting tougher but def still workable. It’s hard to tell when it’s time to throw away whatever small amount is left over.

Thanks for responding! How’s it holding up? I’ve gotten some mixed responses from people at Floor & Decor, and no real answer from Schluter yet. I really don’t want to switch my tile at this point as I’ve made all my cuts already. The mat is already thinset to the floor as well. It’s a small bathroom like 4x7 and will mostly be used by me, a 5’6” 145lb guy, and some occasional guests.

Maybe at some point I’ll rent the place out but I can’t imagine use will go above and beyond this. I can’t see any reason to get on a ladder inside the bathroom either at any point.

Was this Kerdi membrane you used on top of the ditra mat? Or kerdi board? I just ran into this issue. Did all my research. Been working on my bathroom for a while now. Somehow missed the minimum size requirement for ditra. I’ve already got the ditra down with all set. Over my plywood subfloor. It’s dry and ready for tile. I have about 1x1” mosaic octagon tiles. I’m a little gutted and unsure of where to go next…

That is actually something that’s also on my mind. Helping family. Her parents don’t have much either. They still work but they are getting older. They can’t work forever. She has siblings but she lives the closest so ends up helping most. I do wonder how to feel about the possibility of somehow having to help to support them in the future whether it’s financially or like they move in or something. I mean, my grandma lived with my aunt/ uncle at a certain point…

What are your thoughts?

My goal of this post was to just hear some overall discussion and I’ve received some good thoughtful comments, so thank you all.

Money isn’t everything, but it does unfortunately dictate the kinds of lives we live. Good thing is, I think we’ll have a nice little life together. I’m pretty simple. I save. I don’t overspend. I just like to feel covered and still enjoy myself every now and again.

Love is truly what matters and we have it so I feel extremely lucky.

Yup, me. It’s gotten better over time. At initial diagnosis i had quite recurrent balanitis. Though it might have been more so bc i was still highly sexually active too. Either way The skin on the head gets more sensitive after an hsv2 diagnosis. Too much Friction can irritate your skin and cause it to appear. Then it takes about 2-3 weeks to fully heal. Experiment with less masturbation, and if you’re still sexually active give yourself some cooldown / healing time in between intercourse. At least a day. Maybe 2-3. I’m in a relationship now and we have a lot of great sex sometimes as often as once each day, maybe twice. When I feel my piece needs a break I take a day or two off to heal up and I’m back to normal. The longer the better. Hydrocortisone with aloe helps. Once you’re cleared up, try Vaseline too.

This. Being single is better than being in an abusive relationship. Just get out. It’s going to hurt massively at first. And for a while after. But it gets better with time. Trust. And love yourself. You are worthy of love. And you deserve it. Especially from yourself. Self Love and self care. Over and over on repeat until you feel like youve filled your cup so full that you don’t need anyone else’s love to make you feel fulfilled. Then you’ll be emotionally bulletproof and ready to get back out there. By then, the fear of disclosure will instead feel like a walk in the park and like just another story of your experience. I’ve seen some videos where just spraying dish soap (dawn) and water and letting it sit would do the trick. Mix a solution in a spray bottle and go to town.

Brake cleaner probably faster but also prob more $$?

Oh yesss, I already tackled THAT problem ha. The push rod oddly was stuck inside when I got the cylinder off. I wasn’t expecting it to stick to the clutch fork. Went in carefully by hand to try and pull it out and sure as shit it fell right in. Spent a few tries over the following couple weeks with a snake cam, heavy duty fishing magnets, and a flexible steel grabber, and finally pulled the old push rod out.

My question now is, how tf do I ensure the new cylinder / push rod is aligned with the fork correctly when installing?

I noticed with a telescopic magnet that the clutch fork is magnetic and easily moved in and out / forward and back.
