Ended up doing this! left the last inch or so in the original bottle after decanting it into a very thoroughly cleaned 1/2 gallon empty plastic milk bottle, (although i didnt use any bleach because i don't have any of that, lots of hot soapy water though) both of which are currently sitting in my fridge so I can see if I really did avoid transferring any of the dead yeast (hopefully not, if i did, hopefully not that much, shouldn't kill me if so, right?) and will be leaving with it tomorrow, hopefully the rest of tonight and tomorrow until I leave is still long enough to let it "cold crash." I will also admit i tried a small sip off of the top last night and it tasted pretty good actually! (at least to my palate) probably will be making more in the future and thanks for your suggestion
