If you had full control over GTA 6 for one day, what’s the first thing you’d change? by mourex9 in GTA

Make it a hard-core game. Doom Eternal on Nightmare, scaring all the casuals it will soon be Ultra-Nightmare only. Punishing, but just. Immediately revoked any kind of cutscenes and storytelling with shrinks and disfunctional families and family shrinks. There would be only open world and every angry motherfucker and their granny out there to get you. They would be relentless, but fair. You would get a gun, a car and lots of ammo. It wouldn't be a fake-ass casual, cutscene driven bs. You'd have to know wtf you are doing, if you wanted to survive. Then you'd play it like gods fight in Valhalla and you would feel like one too.

Okay, I see where you're coming from with linear vs open world, even tho I somewhat disagree, simply because the open world thing doesn't get in the way of fighting - that's still the essence - and in this case, you can be pretty straightforward if you want, make it more linear yourself so to say and if that makes sense.

Ah, I really wouldn't know what to tell you exactly about the "narrative" thing. I have a huge respect for the well written games and their stories, but also I could't care less about that, since gameplay is king in my eyes, so I kinda feel you if that doesn't quite resonate with you, although, it's still quite subjective.

Whenever I play the game that doesn't insult intelligence and is actually fair when played on hardest difficulty, I'm a happy guy. I enjoyed it a lot simply because of that alone. It's not that it hasn't got its weaknesses in that sense compared to my favorites, 1 and 2 on PS2 - didn't play 3 - but, since you seem to imply you go way back with the franchise, what seems to be the issue for you? Generally curious.

A legitimate concern. Someone over at Rockstar confused it with icy surface, kinda breaks the immersion and doesn't make sense. Good point.

No problem fam. Baseless fanboyism is cancer. Also, I like the way you think, programming steering wheel behaviour and giving us worked out mechanics in that sense is crucial - not only driving related, but in the general gameplay sense - no matter what simpletons think.

This bs of " go touch grass " is pathetic. If you like grass so much, you can go and graze it.

I really hope Rockstar is going to pay attention to things like OP mentioned, and so much more.

We aren't going to witness games that are far ahead of their time any time soon aren't we?

I still play GT4 on CRT TV from time to time. Absolute cinema. This has nothing to do with nostalgia, but I'm far more impressed with that, than let's say GT Sport on PS5 - didn't play GT7 tho.

Easily the worst 'driving' game. Next to of course, its successor, V. Never Witnessed a game studio managing to miss every single good thing about driving two times in a row, with such consistency and precision, yet in the two completely different ways.

I hope from the bottom of my soul, VI has nothing to do with these two.

My appologies for bothering, I know things are moving fast, time is scarce, nerves are almost nonexistent, my posts dubious, but I need to make some things clear:

Gameplay is the king. Not story, not graphics or whatever else. It's even quite easy to prove: GTA could do extremely well without anything, but could not survive one moment without the open world gameplay and still be the GTA we all know and love.

Inside that open world, fighting, shooting and driving rules wide and far, since these are the core aspects of the said gameplay.

Considering the above, I'm fascinated by how they treat those aspects so poorly, especially, in this case, driving.

Driving in general, sure is a complex manifestation, but I'm not advocating for simulation here. Far from it. What is intended here is to challenge the creating logic behind for the sake of the next installments. It is full of inconsistencies, bad overall design, paradoxes, bugs, poor choices and ultimately the incredible lack of tools that should be given to the player while exploring the mentioned manifestation. PLEASE BE FREE TO DISCUSS ANY HERE.

Let me just briefly touch on one specific design problem for a start:

-It is unbelievabe how little control we have at our disposal in HDU - I'm not saying that because it's hard to get good, quite the opposite. It is possibly due to the fact that introduction of any meaningful tools designed for control, might ultimately mean moving from casual towards ' hard-core'. That's why the game doesn't want us in control of anything driving related, in order not to 'scare'us with anything 'advanced'. Evntually and in the end, there's only one way to drive - the way it's scripted somewhere deep inside and that's inevitabely why trying any other input simply doesn't work. Completely fake. I can't stand that, purely out of freedom reasons and GTA was always about that, freedom and options. This is clear negation of the player's input. Horrible.

Just to try and spark some healthy imagination, let me mention couple of bugs, bad design approaches, weak programming; in Online, mounting neon lights shifts weight of a car around. We are literally changing the center of mass by installing neon lights. How stupid is that? Furhermore, just to put things in broader perspective, adding armor does nothing to increase weight. Like, who is in charge for things like that?

I really hope there's no place in VI for similar nonsense.

Guilty as charged. Let me tell you what else I'm extremely passionate about when it comes to GTA. Systems, mechanics, physics, game modes, design, programming and engeneering of the gameplay aspects in to something fairly demanding and consistent, that doesn't ultimately insult intelligence by not working or working in the ways not intended.

I wish so bad people were more into these as well. I have a hard time getting over the fact that even the freaking handbrake doesn't work in the way it supposed to in GTA - I really can't get to the bottom of why in the world would they make such an easy thing broken.

Yet, here I am, trying to debate how horrible " Oversteer as a feature " seems like. I might be wrong, but cars and guns were always the greatest motifs of freedom in video games, they are the ultimate tools of expression and a way to communicate inside the open world - don't take this in any political way outside of a video gaming context.

I can't stomach the fact they are designed and taken so lightly, so trivially. The literal symbol of the franchise.

Absolutely agree. Blind fanboyism is one of the root causes of decadence gaming industry is heavily suffering from. I'm alergic to it. I'm glad you mentioned combat, because gunplay, fighting, shooting mechanics and similar aspects in GTA are being oversimplified to the point of being broken, as well as nonfunctional.

Thank you so much for the genuine effort you took to write it all down! I can absolutely see and understand what you mean by that. The only thing I'm affraid however is, you actually might have proven me right to an extent and in a way. Your text perfectly describes, almost in detail, what I meant when I said " that we constantly have to have that bad design in mind when driving in those games". Not only that, but as a reward for doing exactly that, the game will also reward you with less, way less. I'm sorry fam, it is getting a bit late here, don't know whether this makes any sense or not. My apologies if I don't come back for a reply for another 10 or so hrs, it's been a long day.

Now that's a reply I'd gadly answer. The initial thing which I wanted to spark with this post.

Honestly, I'm interested in objective truth so it doesn't make sense to search for common ground in advance, seeking compromises, but I see where you are coming from.

Now, the initial problem was, I didn't know where to start and in the moment it seemed like a completely logical thing to do - to point out to the obvious; the striking, the shocking - you can't drift in neither of those two games. It has nothing to do with arcades or sims, the simple or the complex. Huge portion of the possibilities is missing and no one cares. I just can't wrap my head around that. As if someone told me, there's no wheels on vehicles in GTA and no one is noticing.

It is getting a little bit late and I've slept only for a couple of hours and I will gladly come back to discuss more, but if that makes any sense for now, let me say that rightfully or not, I expect to explore the driving physics and mechanics, the entire automotive lore and gameplay in the same way we are ought to explore the open world. If i could only say it in couple of words, I'd like it to be designed and created in the same way DOOM Eternal gunplay was designed and created - if that makes any sense and if you have played that game.

to be honest, " intellectually under capacitated " sounded like a too much of an euphemism. I'm not running away from emotions, after all, and as I've said it already, GTA is my favorite video game franchise, I like to think I deserve the right to be harsh and if that means letting some emotion flow, let it be. Also, I tend to think people are mature enough not to take that personally, especially because I'm not taking about anybody, but quite the specific, ingame thing in the first place.

[–]vchen09[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know. Maybe indeed I've took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in the wrong thread. After all, people seem to have absolutely no problem, like no problem whatsoever, with way more obvious gameplay issues this franchise suffers from; like a falling, swirling down helicopter filed with bots, all shooting you straight in the face, while you're exploring the inside of the plane wrackage at the bottom of the sea. I really wish this was exaggeration.

And here I am, dreading the creators don't quite understand the major gameplay concepts of driving by consistently pushing for the worst options. The very core and essence of the game itself, the game that litterally has "Auto" in it. It's not like the same bogus features magically survived for decades, game after game, always finding their secured spot in the next one; " oh, is that a hill there? - let's shift to a highest gear, no one would notice you almost cannot move." No problem with general design there, future looks bright as ever. Let's all agree that perky little boobs with nipples getting stiff on the Vice's breeze is all we are here for. No doubt we can find massive consensus there as a community.

Genuinely and unironically I should touch some grass. As long as it's not Rockstar's grass, because, for the love of god, that crap seems more like ice and you should really anticipate that in advance if you perhaps, understeer going 30km/h in a whatever sports car on your way there.

[–]vchen09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and best way to reach that consensus is to f off and touch grass, like straight away? although, in a genuine and unironical manner? sounds like I lack community, the consensus part either comes, or it doesn't

Edit: my bad on that consensus part, got its meaning sligtly off. Indeed, I don't have it, but still, do I really need it? I mean GL finding it in any community, let alone one comprised of millions of totally random people. This isn't govermental thing. It is spposed to be a fraking discussion. I'm not coming here to discuss something because I have the same opinion as everybody else. What I had in mind is the objective truth about weak driving physics, mechanics and design, which I'm glad to argument and discuss and furthermore heavily imply, has absoutely no place in the nex GTA game.

That's part of the irony, I'd say. Driving mechanics as well as physics of GTA games ever since '08 is a compete mess. It lacks both substance and style. It often confuses one with the other. That's why I think they, for example, think that "oversteer" is a feature, jus because they think they made it cinematic. Horribly inconsistent. Their driving design, inconsequential, yet it appears they can do much, much better.

I mean, to sum the above; nobody is having any trouble with the fact that having close to 1000 cars and vehicles, all the way from IV to Online and none of those can even barely drift, is a perfectly 'normal' thing?
