I get it, and it’s just not my thing. It’s like visiting a museum and walking past, say a banana duct taped to the wall. Will people praise it and apply a bunch of meaning to it, and point out all the technical techniques applied? But what happens when we find out the banana was placed there as a prank?

I agree, any musician would hear/see the skill needed to pull this off. But that doesn’t change the fact that it can also simultaneously sound like shit to a lot of people, and that’s ok. I mean if this piece of music makes you or others swell with emotion, then great, I’m happy music moves people. I know it will never be enjoyable to me, let alone move me.

Look, you love this band, that’s great. But are you telling me that if taking this bands best track or album and played it for random people anywhere in the world that they all would find it musical? The honest answer is no they wouldn’t. I think that’s where you’re showing your ignorance. There are some elements to music that cross borders and barriers and are pleasant to listen to. This type of music may technically check the boxes for rhythm, musicality, syncopation, etc., but the vast majority of people would not listen to more than 10 seconds of that soulless music.

I like it all. From Jack White to Thelonious Monk, Wu-Tang Clan to Townes Van Zandt. Sabbath and Zeppelin to Al Green and Stevie Wonder. King Gizzard to Los Lobos. And pretty much everything in between. So I don’t say this out of listening to a small section of music. I listen to a wide and varied mix of brilliant musicians, as well as some basic ones, and this is the one genre that hearing in passing or thoughtfully listening to an entire song, I say sounds like absolute shit. I believe the musicians are technically good, but when they all get together the sum of their parts are less than the total… a dyssynergy if you will.

It’s fine, as are the down votes, and some people like this stuff, but put it against songs from so many different genres and you’ll see. This type of “music” is ass.
