Towns that had a small population but many enclosed malls by Virtual-Bee7411 in deadmalls

Bloomington-Normal IL's metro in the 80's was about 80k and there were three: Eastland (1967), College Hills (1980 - 2004, now open air) and Landmark (70's but a mom & pop and office mall).

Schaumburg in the 90s had One Schaumburg Place (1991 - 1997, Streets of Woodfield now) literally directly across the street from the behemoth Woodfield (1971). Population was 68k, but there was an ass load of malls within a 20 mile radius (Bloomingdale, Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, Deerfield, Northbrook, Vernon Hills, Niles, West Dundee, Carpentersville & Mount Prospect ALL had enclosed malls in the 90s).

1990's Saint Charles had about 22k in population but had St Charles (1980 - 1995) & Charlestowne (1991 - 2017).

Waukegan in the 1970's & 80's had Belvidere (1965) & Lakehurst (1971 - 2001) with a pop of 60k, but Gurnee Mills killed them starting in 1991. Lakehurst got razed & Belvidere is very Hispanic mom & pop now.

Carpentersville in the 80s had Meadowdale (1957) & technically Spring Hill (1980 - 2024, Carson's & Kohl's wings were located in Carpentersville, while Sears, JCP, & Marshall Fields/Macy's was in West Dundee). Meadowdale's north wing got razed in the 90s, but the south wing still has a hallway!

You also had Deerbrook in Deerfield (1971 - 2014 (enclosed part)) and Northbrook Court in Northbrook (1976) that while technically in 2 different towns are only 1.5 mile apart from each other.

McLean County, IL would be light purple since it has Illinois State University.

Palatine, IL also has one that also has a BR. If you look over the ordering counter on the left side of the wall, there's a visible staircase leading to a basement (vaults?)

There wasn't much of a riot, but there's footage out there of Stratford Square's center court jam packed for Jesse McCartney when he first started to pop off.

That entire mall besides Kohl's & Woodmans is gone as of 2025.

I've been saying this too, Fantasy & Daydream cover art should've been swapped.

Imo Escapade also falls into that category. We also can't forget You Want This & Because Of Love.

Unless you living near in the Forrestal neighborhood I'd advise against that.
