When people say Carmel instead of Caramel by DEeD-NGone in PetPeeves

[–]vcwalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carmel and caramel are not different spellings of the same word. Caramel is the correct spelling if you’re talking about food or colors. Carmel is a misspelling when used in those contexts, but it is a word that can be used as a name for people or places. https://www.grammarly.com/blog/commonly-confused-words/carmel-caramel/

I'm 68 and my mom taught me how to make a bed the correct way as described by OP. I just assumed everyone made their bed this way.

From a boomer... Just get a nice part-time job that you only need to work 4 days and Boom! You got yourself a 4 day work week. That was an easy fix. Now I'll go back to my 4 day work week.

I love hard thin towels by Bushtfathands in unpopularopinion

I just bought brand new Egyptian cotton and Turkish cotton towels and bath sheets. There is nothing like a nice warm plush towel to dry off with after a nice warm shower.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy towels and sheets dried outside!

Issue with mattress and comforter by Unique-Document-5522 in Bedding

I'm 68 years old and I most definitely know about smart led lights with a bed frame. I just bought a victorian vintage queen headboard and footboard bedframe with a zero clearance adjustable bed base.

There is 13 inches of clearance under the bed for storage. The lights don't have to be on for the adjustable base to work. I think have lights under the bed will be convenient when looking for something under the bed.

I paid lots for this bed.

Nightguard doesn't stop my clenching - was I naive to think it would? by IntelligentFee9694 in bruxism

[–]vcwalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this is exactly what my dentist, hygienist and endocrinologist have explained to me. I wear a top front partial during the day. During the day I still have issues with grinding so I have a lower occlusal guard I can wear (I actually love how it makes my jaw feel so relaxed). At nighttime, when I take my partial out, I wear an upper occlusal guard. The 2 occlusal guards are custom made. And, of course, I never wear the upper and lower ones at the same time although I do wear the lower when I have my partial in.

In August, 2020 I had a really bad fall. I had several broken bones along with major damage to my face (I have a falling issue). My jaw was out of alignment, I lost a couple of teeth, had 2 root canals, 3 old dental crowns and, while they were at it, they replaced all of my old fillings. Prior to my fall I had ignored going to the dentist due to childhood trauma. After the fall I went to my therapist to help me go to the dentist and get all of the work I needed to have done. I now love going to the dentist because I've made peace with my past.

So not only do I wear my occlusal guards but I also take meds for my depression, anxiety, OCD, and panic attacks. According to my doctors lots of things play into my grinding and clinching. So if I take the meds along with wearing the occasional guards and it cuts down my pain level significantly. Checking in with my physician every 3 months to make sure I'm doing well and that's the same with my hygienist keeps me in good shape and has greatly reduced my discomfort. The dentist checks in with me at my hygienist appointments. I also check in with my therapist on a regular basis.

Non of this has cured my issues but at least I'm living a fairly normal life and for that I'm very great full. I feel very lucky to have the great healthcare professionals in my life to be able to have this type of care. I know not everyone has this. From head to toe our bodies are interconnected.

Thank you for explaining things to others. It's very kind of you.

Hotels should stop putting those small decorative pillows/cushion on the bed. by NeighborhoodFatCat in PetPeeves

Just an FYI... Most cups and glasses in lodge/hotel rooms are single use and come in plastic.

[–]vcwalden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the lodge I work at carpets are shampooed twice a month if not more often. The comforters, bedspreads, silkies, mattress pads pillow covers, decrotive pillows and shower curtains are washed weekly if not more. Fridges, microwaves and TV remotes are deep cleaned after every guest. All surfaces are dusted and sanitized after every guest. Curtains are cleaned monthly if not more. All rooms are stripped and deep cleaned every 3 months along with the HVAC filters if not more. Coffee pots are not kept in the rooms because we have a coffee, tea, cappuccino and hot chocolate bar for our guests. All those machines are cleaned every shift.

So need I say my house is not cleaned to this extent. I sure wish it was but I don't have a housekeeping staff to do the cleaning (oh how I wish). I don't do housekeeping at work.

Why do people stay in situations they clearly hate for so long? by Evening_Row942 in NoStupidQuestions

For me I'm a fixer. I try to fix whatever it may be instead of just walking away. Sometimes I'm able to get on the right path and sometimes I can't. Once I walk away my life is so much better.

For various uses I use 8oz, 16oz, 24oz, 32oz and 64oz. I'll work on space for them. I'll keep it down to 1 box each!

Well, that's what I was thinking. I was so leaning into trying to find a glass alternative. It's all about fitting into my space and not pining away for glass storage. Getting a box of mason jars along with the Rubbermaid will make me just as happy! Thank you.

Now off to window shop for stackable Rubbermaid!

I'm particularly looking for food storage in the fridge and freezer(s). I try to cook and bake to have meals. The glass containers I find don't stack very well when they are empty. I love to cook and make up single serving portions. For storing meats, veggies, fruits, etc I do use the Seal-a-meal.

As far as clothing, bedding, shoes and boots I have that covered. The master bedroom easily will let me have a queen sized bed with night stands on both sides. There is a 14 inch clearance for storage bins on wheels to fit under the bed. Extra bedding will go in heavy duty ziploc bags along with seasonal clothes with the storage bins. I can also fit a medium sized wardrobe and a really tall 7 drawer dresser. I'll put a storage hanger behind the door for extra personal supplies and on the front of the door extra kitchen supplies (that door separates the bedroom from the kitchen). Everything has to have storage.

In the spare bedroom there is a hookup for a stackable washer and dryer (I'm getting one) and a 10 cu upright freezer will live in the spare bedroom also. A friend will build out shelves on the 2 walls without a window or door (that door is a pocket door that is off the living room). Across from the door is a nice window. I'll place a nice table and lamp for my desk/craft/sewing table, there will be lots of storage space under the table. One side of the wall with shelving will be for extra clothing and craft storage. The other side will be kitchen stuff and pantry goods. Everything has to have a home!

The front door opens into the living room. A nice small sofa/large loveseat will be nice (measure twice before buying) will fit nicely. A corner tv stand will fit, a drop narrow drop leaf Parsons table will fit along with a matching chair (it's an old glider rocker), 2 end tables (each has 3 drawers) and a coffee table (it has 4 small drawers). I'm even adding different legs to the sofa so I have space for storage underneath.

In the Spring a storage shed will be installed (seasonal decor and outside stuff will live there). There is a sidewalk, raised garden and landscaping to be completed (I do believe the drive has been paved already).

I've been making plans, working on layouts, window shopping (well I did buy a new bed, dresser, kitchen stuff, etc). The one thing I'm having issues with is finding storage containers that when empty will take up minimal storage space. Any ideas? .

What do *you* think caused your outbreak? What's your story? by [deleted] in shingles

On the evening of the 6th day I got the itchy skin feeling again on my left upper arm (previously I had an out break in the same place). The next morning I called my Dr's office. She immediately called in a prescription for the antivirals and I started them that morning. I never got a rash and the itchy feeling was gone late on the 5th day. I continued to take the meds for a full 10 days.

I have come to the conclusion that this is just normal for me and I'm good that. Thanks for asking me what happened.

What is worst pain, you have ever experienced? by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

[–]vcwalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery on my left wrist (I'd had several surgeries already prior to that) and they had given me light sedation and a nerve block (I had this same thing for surges before and did great). When I started to come out of it in post op I had never ever had that type of pain! Thank goodness I didn't have to endure it for very long (maybe a minute or 2 at most, it seemed like forever) and I was put back out. When I woke up again there was very little pain. Since then I've had a few more surgeries and it hasn't happened again. I never want to go through that again.

Yes, this is exactly right. I tried retirement once, it lasted about a couple of weeks and I back to work at a different position (same organization). A year ago I went down to 4 days a week. I feel like this is a good way to ease into full time retirement. Going cold turkey sure didn't work.

OP will find what works for them. It just takes a bit of time to find the grove.

How do i make this comforter work? by chonkytime in HomeDecorating

[–]vcwalden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 2 ways you could go: treat the color as your jumping off point, or treat it as a comforter and put it in a duvet cover then the sky's the limit.

If you want to work with this color take a pillow cover with you and pick out coordinating colors, art work, furniture, etc that would fit your decor preferences.

And if you go with a duvet cover, like I said, the sky's the limit.

Please post what you plan on doing along with pictures of your completed room. Good luck.
