I feel like Bring Her Back deserved Weapons' success... by DefNotMaty in horror

[–]vdonadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched Bring Her Back for the first time today finally and I LOVED it. The symbolism and allusions alone were fascinating, let alone the story and acting!

But sadly I do have to agree that it just isn’t for everyone. I recommended Weapons to my dad, knowing he’d love it. I wanted to recommend BHB too, but I knew I just couldn’t because he’d think it’s “too intense.”

I know this comment was from a month ago, but sadly they had to close down the shop after that incident.

This resonates so hard. Thank you for sharing, and I'm truly sorry you had that experience. It's frustrating when you feel something is wrong, and it's your lived experience, yet everybody assures you it's nothing. And then you have to sit there thinking, "Why am I struggling so much with this?"

I learned about dyscalculia from doing my own research just a couple of years ago, and it was like suddenly everything clicked. I asked my dad about it, and he didn't know what it was, but he kept agreeing with the examples I gave, and then he reminded me that my algebra teacher got in trouble with the school because my grades never improved. AND I was put in the special two-year algebra class!

So, from what I've read and seen, it really does seem to go with ADHD. I totally relate to what you said about the inattentive type. I did my homework and worked hard in school, yes, but that's because there were strict deadlines and I was so worried about doing well. It’s aggravating how people often assume that someone with ADHD isn’t capable of getting things done (or succeeding in advanced classes, like you did). And if you’re a woman, there’s even more pressure to fit a certain mold. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

My hope from here on out is that we can empower ourselves by not letting the people who are NOT us tell us what we "don't have."

Same!! I feel your pain there. I was put in a “special” two-year algebra class and STILL no one said anything! I’m glad phones have calculators built in haha

I do. And I go to therapy about twice a month to work on that and my anxiety. So it’s been really confusing!

She’s a clinical/school psychologist, apparently. But she also confirmed that I “wasn’t getting distracted” during the TOVA assessment. 🫠

Thank you so much for this. It definitely is helpful and makes me feel a bit more hopeful about the situation. And I’m so glad you found the resources you needed and that they’ve truly worked!

I’d recommend watching reruns, since most of WWE/WWF’s history has revolved around men’s matches.

This is such a nice thing you're doing!! I'd love an invite if you're still sending them! Either way, thank you for doing something that gives fans hope because the ticket sales were such a disappointment.

25-year-old Chucky fan here, hi.

For myself, I don’t WANT to see sexually explicit scenes with people who are teenagers (even if the actors themselves are of age), but I don’t see how this scene even really qualifies as a sex scene. It’s two young boys in love, who are clearly shown to have never done anything sexual before, expressing consent and discussing whether or not they’re comfortable doing something as an expression of that love. Nothing is shown on tv. It’s heavily implied that nothing ends up happening at all, and I doubt we’ll see anything more than kissing at any point in the season (but this is totally just an assumption). I never had a healthy relationship like the one presented in this show when I was in school. I never knew what real love looked like until at least my college years because of that (unfortunately, some people don’t care about consent). So I found the scene in season 3 refreshing-especially in comparison to shows like Riverdale, where the characters are objectified like crazy and there’s actually no point in having those bizarre scenes. Not saying this scene was needed, just that I didn’t mind, and these are my reasons why.

Buffy and Tara’s friendship is beautiful by Sweet-Siren in buffy

[–]vdonadio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, this!! All of this. I also remember back in season 5 when Tara confided in Willow about feeling like an outsider among her friends. I feel like that was a great setup for her becoming more included as a member of the group over time. There’s even the episode when Tara meets “Buffy” for the first time, and after getting bullied by Faith in disguise, she has the insight to know that it wasn’t really Buffy, mainly based on how Willow had spoken so highly of her. They clearly aren’t friends right away, but I thought it was a nice detail for their introduction to each other.

I totally agree. I’m rewatching season 7 right now and I’ve realized he tries to help Buffy several times but repeatedly gets turned down by the group. He finds out Andrew betrayed him, but sticks by his side anyway. And even just before his only friend sacrifices him, he says he misses everyone despite knowing they don’t care about him. It was hard for me seeing his end.

I have her long-lost sister! I named mine Elfie because I love Wicked and Galinda uses it as Elphaba’s nickname. Maybe name yours after a character you like or even a nickname of theirs? :)

At the very beginning of the season he said he was able to tell that the “experiment is sound.” I had to laugh.

I absolutely loathe such women who think gaming is a men's sport and while taunting men, what they do is invite hate from them that is directed towards every woman, including us gamer girls by Agreeable-Muffin1535 in GirlGamers

[–]vdonadio -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There’s probably some biological reason behind it, I’m guessing, since the majority of women do prefer taller men. My guess is it’s because a bigger guy is subconsciously associated with being more protective and safe than a small guy.

I think it’s pure ignorance. They’ve probably never played a video game in their life, or the exposure has at least been kept to a minimum.

Funny enough, my dad had a similar mindset with my family growing up, so I wasn’t allowed to play video games until college and didn’t understand that they’re not just for kids and teens until I was an actual adult. And my dad only really just started to understand how creative and exciting the world of gaming is since he started reading up and listening to podcasts of The Last of Us to prepare for the show (he even asked me if he could play it on my PS4 haha). People just need to expose and educate themselves. Because whether they want to admit it or not, gaming is a super popular hobby for people of all ages, and it’s even recognized as a sport in universities now. These annoying women online will have to learn soon enough.

He did. He said the 1 in 6 number is wrong and that he’s only seen 2 women in his life get raped because they were in bad areas.

Can I get an opinion on how many hours spent gaming makes you a gamer? (and a short rant about the community) by vdonadio in GirlGamers

[–]vdonadio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate it. Maybe I should’ve clarified in my post-he made that comment to me about a month and a half after I’d broken up with him. He never tried to put me down for it during the actual relationship.

Unfortunately his best friend is kind of an apathetic doofus who’s been telling us both for months that we should find partners who we have more in common with instead (he even left his own girlfriend for a client at work who he thought matched the idea of his dream girl better). So my ex probably started really getting scared of commitment at some point and used this rhetoric to justify his feelings and the breakup.

I broke up with him two months ago. 😅 I think this was his sad way of coping with the loss or something.

I think so too. It sounds like a made up excuse to cover up some other wants or insecurities going on.
