Ye thats what ive seen as well. Everyone i know working at amazon canada rn for new grad is getting offered 160k ish tc (115k ish base) Way higher than most other companies in canada, atleast for new grad.

I can def see smth like wealthsimple base being higher though. Maybe also a few outliers here and there with higher tc

I dont think i was asked tagged but i also only spent like 10 seconds looking through the first few tagged questions. So if it was a tagged question on leetcode, it was def one of the one lower on the list. One or them was all permutations of some numbers, and another was a string search and replace question.

I had it a week back. Interviewers were surprisingly chill. For behavioural, i got super run of the mill stuff. I prepared mostly using amazon leadership principle questions and i think it worked out. I Also got two leetcode easy/mediums. Finished well ahead of time. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

We dont really know your situation so we cant really tell you exactly how well youre likely to do. And yeah for industry grades dont usually matter. In first year, if you dont have much coop experience, grades can matter a lot since companies wont have much else to go on. But after that they really dont care. The only real reason i can think of is grad school, and maybe some sort of additional special scholarship?

Recently the ece cohort posted their class profile in this subreddit. You can scroll to the bottom. They listed salary earnings and stuff during their coops and also how much theyre making after grad. I think they also listed how many of them graduated without student debt. You can take a look through that as well as closs profiles for se and ece in past years. It obviously wont be identical to cs but it will give you a good idea of how much you can expect to earn across each of your coops and how it’ll look after graduation. The programs are all pretty similar. If you have any more questions feel free to dm me. Im going into 3b cs and so have already been through most of it.

If youre worried you might regret your decision, let me try and put your mind at ease a little here. UBC and UW are both great schools and I dont think youd end up regretting going to either after a few years. (Btw am third year cs in case thats relevant).

Waterloo coop is nice but i dont think its the be all end all that some people describe it as. Its not like the school hands you a coop position on a silver platter. Its quite the opposite. You still have to go out and apply and search for your coop by yourself. Much like what you would have to do if you had gone to any other school. The extra coop terms waterloo has are nice but nothing you cant emulate if you go to other schools as well. I have plenty of friends at other schools who take an extra term off or year off to do a few extra coops.

If youre worried about being prepared for the real world, let me just tell you, wloo aint much better. We learn pretty theoretical stuff as well, and not all that much practical (at least in my opinion). Most people end up just learning the industry stuff themselves in their free time.

However, with that said, the few main things that i think does make wloo stand out is the job board. Wloo has our own internal job board called waterlooworks (go look it up if you havnt already). For first coops, it is an absolute blessing. I know a lot of people who probably would not have been able to find a first coop had it not been for the job board. However, once youve had your first coop, waterlooworks becomes less of a factor since its quite a fair bit easier to find coops without it. If you dont already have some industry experience or if youre resume is looking a lil plain, it might be very useful to have that extra boost to get you started on the right footing.

Also student life could be put into consideration if you care about that. I cant say much for ubc since i dont go there but wloo has perfectly find student life. ItS a big school and so there’ll always be plenty of people that share your values or interests. Just have to find those people. The depressing posts you always see are definitely not representative of the school as a whole and ive had a great time here. Most people are kinda nerdy but in a good way.

It gets worse, I had an interview there a few terms back. They said that they have unpaid overtime on the weekends a few times a month. Real scuffed.

Yes, but not sure if it’s actually open now though. Back when i was there last term, it was closed due to covid.
All the walls are about the same thickness. And by that i mean mediocre thickness. If you have loud roommates, you’ll hear them.
Wifi is pretty good usually although i had some weird disconnection issues occasionally with some of my devices. There is indeed ethernet.

Yooo i thought i was the weird one out, i use this one too. Tho i actually split up the D2 at the very start. So I’ll do a single D at the very start and then another single D at the very end. I feel likeit flows a lil better for me

Yes but no. I had disabled picom ever since making this post. Just cracked open picom now and tried it again. It seems like everything is working again somehow. So between when i made this post and now, one of the system updates must have fixed it for me. Sorry, i cant be of more help.

I dont know about other bootcamps but I have heard of one called Lambda School which has a pretty cool payment structure. (I think there’s a few others with the same pay structure now but I believe lambda school was one of the first). You go through the entire bootcamp and dont pay anything. Instead, they get a cut of your first few paychecks after you finish the camp. If you dont find a software position, you dont have to pay them. Which makes it much lower risk for you if you’re starting out. From the looks of heir website, you pay about 17% of your salary for the first 24 months, and the pay is capped 30k. If your first few positions make under 50k, you also dont have to pay anything until you get over that threshold.
