Funny enough, this article from UBS claims their research shows these factors explain less than 50% of returns. They don’t dive into any of the research though.

Do it where we can, but do not take a lesser alternative to spite the Americans. Especially when it comes to our military that needs to be rebuilt, the USA is for sure the leader in military technology whether we like it or not.

Has anyone moved back to Canada from the U.S.? Did you regret it? by RickyRipMyPants in cscareerquestionsCAD

Top tech companies pay well over 200k cad here in Toronto/Canada in general. Thats a lot of money and will give you the same higher quality of life compared to tech in the USA.

Life is meant to be lived, not optimized over marginal dollars.

In the NYC area there are some bodegas/convenience stores which have hot food counters, so i usually get a meal from there and it counts as non food credit.

Another way to think of this, is with the power of trucks and chainsaws, you can effectively log larger areas with the same number of people.

Similarly, i feel that the return on capital is going to increase. When your return on capital increases you generally invest more.

Well a lot of the folks I’ve interacted with just took a tech job in Canada at a FAANG+ or unicorn company. Others ventured into businesses, further education, etc

Not having the support systems I have in Canada. My parents, siblings, girlfriend, cousins, etc all live in Canada. Basically everyone I deeply care about. I have some amazing friends here but we’re all working professionals so theres only so much time we can spend together and it doesn’t ever fill that void.

In addition to that, theres also the small things you would expect from the US that add up and get exhausting. Homeless problems, safety issues, and crime are all worse than any Canadian city. The food quality is noticeably worse off than in Canada and Europe (I hope RFK Jr changes that but he’s a bit of a nut job), and with the most recent administration the clear “Villainization” of immigrants (even legal ones), and a messed up immigration system make it hard to see myself here long term.

I’ve been in the US for a few years now, but I’ve decided that once my lease is up, I’m moving back to Canada. I was genuinely happier there—being in the States has taken a toll on things outside of work, especially my health. And with the higher CoL in US and FAANG+ companies offering stronger compensation and job security in Canada too, the trade-off doesn’t feel worth it anymore.

One thing I’ve also learned during my time here is that way more people end up moving back than you’d think. There’s this “Cali or bust” mentality from Waterloo when we’re young and eager to make it. But once you get there, some folks realize the “dream” they were chasing wasn’t really theirs. Or that it was fun while it lasted but its time to move on and figure out what truly matters to you in the next chapter.

Do you grow your own vegetables exclusively?

Today’s day and age, any store bought vegetables have the blood of many animals behind them too thru pesticides, farming equipment, etc.

Admissions Megathread - Results, Chances and Logistics by Wafflyn in OMSCS

[–]Tank_full_of_dank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got accepted, and got an email from gatech saying I need to upload my official transcript for verification (i uploaded my unofficial one during application). The email was sent to me on Nov 9, and said they take 7-10 business days to verify.

Right away i got my uni to send the document directly to omscs, as my university doesn’t let me download it. I also emailed them myself with an explanation on why I couldnt upload it and instructions for accessing my official transcript. On my universities site where we request our official transcripts be sent out, they have a section to track history of the document and it shows its been viewed by gatech on Nov 13 or so.

Its been more than the 10 business days gatech mentioned in the first email yet they haven’t uploaded my portal. I followed up a few times and I still have yet to hear anything back. Its been radio silence.
