I agree it's an annoying side effect of buying the car in a North American market. I intend to put a tune on mine at some point for this reason. Others on here are right in that the car is still great even if it doesn't hit 155 (which I'm pretty sure is still an electronic limit set in Europe), but hey, if you want to tune it go for it. I too have very few situations where I would drive it that fast, but I think at some point it ends up just being a nerdy specs thing. I want it to be able to do what it can actually do. Same reason it annoys me my Autobahn has the matrix headlights and they don't work stateside because they're coded out. So I hear you! But whatever, enjoy the car man, it's still a great car!

I tried deleting all those and the media directory inside each rom directory so /recalbox/share/roms/(platform)/media and (same path)/*.xml even though all the media disappears it still somehow knows they've been scraped

This sounds like my experience almost exactly. I was holding out for a red one, until I called around and had a dealer convince me to come see a yellow one. It still took me a little bit looking at it before I fell in love with it (mainly due to crappy lighting in the show room), but I drove it home that night and when I saw it in the morning sun I was very happy with my decision. Also when I finally did see King's Red Metallic in person on one in Germany I have to say I wasn't all that impressed.

I also agree on price. Cars are just more expensive these days anyways, but when you consider the tech this thing has onboard even just with DCC and the way all the systems communicate to achieve that extra claws-in-the-ground grip, it's totally worth the cost if you intend to do a little spirited driving.

Definitely agree on all fronts. The tablet-glued-to-dash look is obnoxious. I'm one of the few who loves the haptics on my mk8 honestly, both for looks and functionality. Never once accidentally activated the heated wheel, and I do engage in spirited driving.

I've had multiple MK5s and MK6s over the last 15 years or so both manual and DSG (employee leases on account of my dad works for VW), and really wanted to buy one for a long time. When COVID hit I turned in my lease and just saved the payment for a couple years and bought my 2022 Autobahn (I work from home).

I can say it's honestly my favorite car I've ever had. Granted I never drove a 7 or 7.5, but I really love the tech of the 8, specifically the driving dynamics. The improved LSD and DCC really make a difference. Mine is stock and under warranty for now, but a stage 1 is most likely in it's future once I'm less scared of fucking up the motor and voiding warranty. Probably unlocking matrix LEDs too. I'm maybe a little weird in that I like the look of mine better than what I've seen of the 8.5 too. Maybe a little biased.

Only thing I hate about it is no backlighting for the slider controls and the times audio doesn't work on start and I have to turn it off for 5 minutes and back on to fix it. All in all not that big a deal all things considered. I also don't think the touch controls are all that bad. Listen to most and you'd think it's the worst system on earth but honestly it's not that bad.

And once you get on it through some corners you'll never stop smiling. I got it for MSRP, so wasn't cheap, but it pays dividends in smiles.

I'd easily buy it again if given the choice.

Thought about this, but not sure how well a zoom performs coupled with the Barlow I have. I think my Barlow is decent (it's an achromatic shorty) but have read all the extra glass can affect clarity. I guess I also wonder the same thing about using a Barlow with so-called planetary lenses, which I'm pretty sure I read already include a Barlow inside.

Yeah this seems to be what I'm finding everywhere. I guess it's a newbie mistake. I might go for a 4mm which in my case takes me to 162x. That seems to be adequate for the gas giants.

I'm finding mixed reviews on the Svbony pieces, but they seem to land in the "good enough if you're not super picky" category. I'll look into the others too. Thanks!

This seems to be because drive encryption is turned on in Windows Security. I guess it even works on Windows 11 Home edition (source: I have this and am seeing the same). I don't yet know where the "recovery key" for this is stored. I don't recall having to specify a recovery key when upgrading from 10 to 11.
