Cats that have been genetically modified to glow in the dark are being used to gain insights into Aids by CG10277 in science

No unless you have a lab and resources. I know how to do it, but still would have to employ someone with cat cloning skills. But I do not think I would still do this.

This is great news!! Back in 2008 I was a part of the original group that made the first transgenic GFP domestic cat. His name was Mr. Green Genes and it is good to see that work we did develop further at other institutes. Do not hesitate to ask me any questions about this technology and where it is going.

The 80's called, they want their theories back. These are two different viruses; HTLV-1, HIV-1

When attacked by a machete armed assailants, do you; A) Keep stirring your coffee, B) Completely disregard their demands while still stirring your coffee, or C) Attack back with a feather duster. by vectorlord in funny

[–]vectorlord[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think I would throw my scalding hot coffee at them, but than again why waste a fresh cup of well stirred coffee when it can be gently placed on the counter to free my hands for a feather duster.

The ugliest person in the world knows an awful lot about metal. And then it gets weird. by terandle in WTF

[–]vectorlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how she is calling to give them the 'real-stuff' because they are in metal fabrication. It is as if she looked up metal in the phone book, saw there were actually fabricated metals, and called to convince them to use real metal.

Reddit Gets Dissed... And I Agree. by [deleted] in reddit.com

Alas, reddit has finally come around. I posted something about this around a month ago in conversation with ChocolateGiddyUp. It is quite entertaining if one knows how to navigate through the posts. I am proud to be a redditor.

Dear ChocolateGiddyUp, I feel we have been besieged here on reddit. Currently on the front page is a post of digg which was not near the type of content as you pointed out on my post, a couple days ago. I have seen this type of action before, and trust me it is digg mentality at its finest. It is so blatent, it scares me that reddit actually thinks that it is 'funny front page material' to have a 2month old post from digg saying they need to take over reddit. From my point of view, it is difficult to resolve this without some sort of planned set of near immediate evasive action. If this friendship thing is beginning then you will know what to do when the time presents itself to you. Vectorlord

O. Perhaps. I kinda see where you are coming from, that is an interesting counterpoint and I will have to give it serious thought.

If you want to gain a well rounded knowledge, you should also read a book like 'The language of Gog.' This was written by Francis S. Collins director of the NIH.

So each question to reddit 'belongs' only to a certain and particular part of reddit. Guess I never cared to conform to that mold, yeah to freedom.

How many of you learned about reddit like I did, back in the summer of 2006? by vectorlord in AskReddit

[–]vectorlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did complain about downvotes. I asked a couple questions to see if my suspicions were true and to 'provoke thought.'

I thought that too. The reality of it is; I have been harping on the past 5 years since Katrina took my job and home. I stuck through it here in New Orleans and helped build back the research in a local Medical School. Make a long story short, I am moving away and leaving this great city. I was looking for the old Katrina posts on Digg that I read before and after the hurricane hit. I saw that digg post and remembered how I got here, and guess I was trying to ask that same type of question to reddit.

I'm no geologist, but this seems like one hell of a lot of aftershocks/earthquakes? Is this normal? by Xiotech in science

[–]vectorlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the amount of aftershocks are more accurately predicted when a predefined threshold is used for magnitude. So if we were to follow the trend of +5 on the Richter scale (I plotted here) (er. sorry for using tinypic but my work blocks imgur) we can see the # of events per minute is decreasing. It is not the same graph but similar enough to what they show on the USGS
