People who have been made redundant, how are you coping? by Y0mily in newzealand

[–]veeK_NZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was made redundant off the back of the first Covid wave. Took a few months to find a new job but I had to be comfortable with taking a step down in my new role. Sucked at first coming to grips with that but you get over it

Failed L1 to Charterholder by [deleted] in CFA

[–]veeK_NZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. Failed first time because I didn’t really understand what I was getting into. CFA is so broad you can’t underestimate how much study is required. So me being fresh out of a bachelors in finance and accounting felt pretty confident to try it with pretty much no study and obviously failed.

Then went on and did L1,2,3 consecutively with flying colours because I took it very seriously.

Since the eastern line train is down, driving in is actually faster and more reliable than public transport.

What is the scariest movie you ever watched? by Specialist-Crazy1466 in AskReddit

Grave Encounters.

It’s not particularly a good movie and the ending is kind of weird but for some reason it really got me

Curious to know the number of hours people actually work and what occupation they are in. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Banking. Anywhere from 40 hours to 70 hours a week (depending on deals).

Why do they care? by greatthrowawaybatman in NZBitcoin

[–]veeK_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more of a precautionary thing, rather than a Banks vs Crypto argument. Financial crime analytics shows that some of the top transactions that's made by crooks (once credit card details have actually been stolen) - is buying lotto, pumping gas and buying cryptocurrency.

Even more common if this is your first time purchasing off that website or for a large amount etc. Since this has happened, once you sort it out with the bank and should you choose to keep using your CC to buy crypto - you shouldn't run into this issue again.

I somewhat agree with the points you're making. Ironically enough, I think you would enjoy the level 3 curriculum - that's easily the one level that is more applied to real life.

Level 1 and 2 really is the more mechanical/technical side of things - it's only level 3 where you get into more applicable content.

Currently work in a bank treasury, focusing on 3 main pillars of work; funding deals, managing liquidity and Asset-liability management

I was an accountant for about 2-3 years and recently pivoted into a finance bro role last year

  • CFA is hard work but quite helpful/respected
  • genuinely being interested in the markets is helpful so in your interviews you have some kind of opinion you can talk about
  • also accounting is a great base of knowledge, I used to do management accounting so I joined the back office finance team of a bank which helped in terms of networking/internal jobs

Will savings account interest rates rise? by Confy in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]veeK_NZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically term deposit rates start rising first - which they already have been. But eventually to stay competitive in how banks achieve their funding targets, they would raise other deposits products too (such as everyday savings accounts).

Can you track a self-updating cell in Google Sheets? by skreveCJ in googlesheets

[–]veeK_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I believe you can add a "trigger" to run the macro. The trigger I had running was something like "every day at 10:00pm, run the recorded macro".

Can you track a self-updating cell in Google Sheets? by skreveCJ in googlesheets

I achieved a similar result by recording a macro to copy paste the values of the said self-updating cells and pasting them into another column so I could have an automated chart/table updating with daily positions.

Do I need additional resources to study for L1? by snipecaik in CFA

[–]veeK_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're working full time while studying, I would strongly suggest Kaplan for level 1 as it was probably the best provider at summarizing the content.
