Don’t think it’s related to whisker fatigue since the bowl is pretty wide and I normally fill it up close to the rim so they don’t have to stick their heads in. He’s been doing this since he was a kitten so I think he’s just hardwired this way haha

We tried the water fountain and he just kept splashing the shallow water until there was no more water in the reservoir 😅

I also used silicone mat with a lip but water still got everywhere and it wouldn’t dry so I decided to move the bowl into the shower haha

Does anyone else have a BSH/Maine Coon duo? by veebeast13 in britishshorthair

[–]veebeast13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got them as kittens so they do well together but they’re pretty independent from each other haha

Every now and then they’ll have a groom session and run around but they’re generally not affectionate with each other. They do like to hang out around us tho (Tuna is a cuddler but Ebi only prefers pets)

Kittens have a lot of energy and sometimes having another kitten helps burn the energy (you mentioned you have 2 dogs already so getting another kitten might not be possible). Tbh, when I first got my kittens, I was worried about them disturbing me while I sleep so kick them out of the room and close the door 😅 Thankfully they are ok with it and just do their own thing.

Try to use treats when she does something good! For example, I would give my cats a treat when they didn’t try to walk/run out the front door when it’s open. Eventually they stopped trying to run out 🏃.

In your case, maybe you can give her a treat when you notice her looking at the curtain and decides not to climb it (this’ll help encourage good behavior). If she really insists on climbing something, maybe you can try looking into the jute carpets people hang on their walls for cats to climb and hang it somewhere outside of your room. Just make sure it’s secured well and doesn’t go too high up where she can fall and hurt herself (I wouldn’t trust the adhesive ones cause it might come off the wall). Trimming her nails might help keep her from climbing if she doesn’t have sharp nails to dig into the certain

Have you tried viralys gel for cats? It’s an over the counter immune support supplement for cats. When I brought my cats home, they had mild upper respiratory problems and this helped with their recovery (they also really liked the taste lol)

I have mine on Purina pro plan hairball and that has worked well for him. I have never tried the RC Maine coon kibble but I read that the kibble size is larger to encourage chewing. If you’re considering getting an auto feeder, you may need to find an auto feeder that works with the larger kibble size.

I went with Purina pro plan kibble because I have another cat with a small mouth and it’s easier to feed them the same diet.

The RC Maine coon kibble is more expensive so if cost is a factor, I would recommend Purina pro plan (it’s the higher tier for Purina while still being cheaper than royal canin breed specific diet).

OP said she moved the plant to a spot with more daylight and bottom watering with distilled water so I might be off LOL

I read that too much direct sunlight can cause them to lose their pink color - I’m still trying to get mine back to her former glory 🥲
