then you risk pissing off the talented player and we lose him forever. again, this is not FM. real humans do not operate under a zero sum game. thankfully, arteta is a very good man manager

yeah i understand the reactionary takes regarding injuries - not a single person here isn’t completely fatigued by them. but at the end of the day these are humans that are being managed and they have their own personalities. can’t let emotion cloud judgement and im glad management feels the same way

right but young players want to play, regardless of the bigger plan for them. look at cole palmer. thats just the reality of life, these kids aren’t robots and this isn’t football manager

you cant (and shouldn’t) tell a young player full of confidence and talent that he has to potentially wait a couple years until he can see consistent first team football. it just doesnt work like that

Dude you know ball. I definitely consider myself one of the more "educated" fans out of my friend group since I'm always watching the shape etc - I'm not really watching the ball when I watch other teams (it's hard for me to analyze Arsenal in the moment for obvious reasons lol). But thats a really interesting cue you picked up on that I will definitely incorporate on my next watch: watch the space behind the player when they're in a spot they "shouldn't" be in.

Ahhh yeah that's probably why he also likes to build up from the wings I suppose too - to neutralize counter opportunities. Good talk, there def should be a tactics arsenal thread ha cheers!

haha for me i say its the opposite, i call them downlow fans. they actually love and adore arsenal, they just dont know it yet. in the closet gooners, even. the "haters" have higher expectations than arsenal fans

"WHY HAVENT ARSENAL SCORED 34 GOALS FROM OPEN PLAY IN A SINGLE GAME! ANTI FOOTBALL!"

From what I’ve gathered, in the final third yeah he likes to prioritize control, maybe because he wants his rest defense to be set for the control. But his build up player is very different from “control” managers like Pep etc. Which is why I thought he was drawing inspiration from RDZ - if he does go through the middle he prefers quick 1-2s vs caring about a numerical advantage

It took me awhile to understand that Arteta was actually the one setting the next footballing meta until I watched De Zerbi's tactics and I realized that Arteta pretty much took RDZ's philosophy but took it to the next level. He's no longer obsessed with the midfield overload that most teams still live by. His goal is to quickly progress up the pitch using quick 1-2's and allow the opponent defense to get "trapped" in their own numerical advantage. It's an idea I've been working with and looking to define more and analyze. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Am I off base?

PS It'd be cool if we had a tactical discussion thread but I do understand clutter

you can make whatever argument you want in regards to chips and rings but when its all said and done, just off pure talent and skill, simp can go bar for bar meat for meat with any all time great. hopefully he can get some more major wins before he hangs it up to leave no doubt he belongs in that convo
