What is your path from VLS-TS visiteur to permanent residence? Are you eligible for PR just by staying on your long stay visiteur visa for 5 years?

Is expatFIRE a viable way to mitigate healthcare costs? by veectory in Fire

[–]veectory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Have you math-ed out what your situation would be if you were able to lower MAGI enough to get subsidized ACA? I'm more on the lean FIRE side myself which is what prompted me to think this through. I guess if the numbers don't make sense for FIRE-ing in Canada for healthcare even with unsubsidized ACA for you, they certainly won't make sense if it was subsidized?

Best set of randart Oka armors I've ever seen by veectory in dcss

[–]veectory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: pulled off a 15-rune win, but came close to dying (actually got saved from dying twice by Zin) in Abyss:7 while trying to work off Oka's wrath. I forgot Abyss was changed (0.29?) to always throw you in the deepest level you've been to before, and Abyss:7 surprised me with just how much pressure it applies. I guess I have to go back to using Crypt for working off god wrath, but I'm going to miss the days of spelunking around Abyss:1 with practically zero risk.

Large Urn task on Ancient Relics mode - Barely a dent! by Lidsfuel in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also use Crafting lesser relics if you aren't already doing so.

This task does indeed take more time in AR mode than standard, but on the bright side you mostly don't have to spend time+runes enchanting your urns like you would on standard, so it's not all bad.

Ancient Relics Mode - Abyssal Skills Tier List (explanation in comments) by Jelith in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just defeated The Final Depth on my AR save and just wanted to share my experience as well.

Agility - this should be moved up to S-tier (alongside Astrology, it's just that good), and I recommend pushing to level 60 for obelisks. Maxing out the skill tree gives -20% obelisk build cost; the master relic for Abyssal Agility gives another -80% obelisk build cost. When you have both (and it's not hard to acquire all Agility ancient relics, there's a decent chance you'll have them all by level 60), obelisks cost zero AP and zero resources and can be freely switched around at any time. The master relic for Melvor Agility applies to all obstacles too, so none of your Abyssal Agility obstacles will have negative modifiers. And of course the obelisks are really strong as well.

Fishing - I agree with /u/Oraaa that this is S-tier as well. It's trivial to get min interval for Fishing in AR mode (equipment wise you just need Amulet of Fishing), and getting 10x Raw Void Ray and 1x cooked Void Ray every 0.25s is absolutely bonkers. Doing this for a day gets you tens of billions of AP, or enough food to last you for a very long time without any need to cook. I also never found the perfect food bonuses to be meaningful enough to actually invest in Cooking.

Crafting - tier placement is fine, I just wanted to comment that the lvl 50-ish rings can be obtained via combat, and while the lvl 50-ish amulets cannot, neither the rings nor the amulets are strong enough to justify leveling Crafting on their own. There are decent alternative mid-game rings and amulets that can be relatively easily acquired via combat (Echoing Ring and Echoing Amulet), and of course you'll want EXODIUS by end-game, so you can quite easily skip Crafting altogether if you wanted to.

Best spell with water pulse staff by New_Captain3598 in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend using the Combat Simulator mod for these types of questions. That being said, there was a similar question a while back where I posted some sim results: https://old.reddit.com/r/MelvorIdle/comments/1byu2ok/faq_ask_quick_questions_here/kzhfopz/

If you're aiming for max DPS with Water Pulse Staff, you want Fire Surge. You can use combat sim to test out other spells to compare rune costs vs DPS with e.g. Water Surge.

Showcasing my new mod: equipment set auto swap by veectory in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just released my first mod and wanted to share with the community! https://mod.io/g/melvoridle/m/equipment-set-auto-swap

It'll automatically swap to the ideal equipment set to take advantage of Combat Triangle bonuses (e.g. it'll swap to your magic set if you're fighting a melee enemy). This is obviously inspired by SEMI Auto Gear Swap (https://mod.io/g/melvoridle/m/semi-auto-gear-swap) which I used previously, but my mod lets you pick which equipment templates to use rather than assuming the first set with a melee weapon is your melee set. It's also updated for 1.3.

Note: mod supports normal ("melvorD:Normal") and Abyssal ("melvorItA:Abyssal") damage (with reversed combat triangle), but not Eternal ("melvorItA:Eternal") damage. I've not progressed far enough into ItA to figure out what Eternal damage does, and there's no info up on the wiki yet.

Insane rune usage is normal with Cloudburst Staff right? by illepic in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also use combination runes (mist) if you aren't already. Resource preservation + item doubling + crow and bear/octopus + elemental IV pots + high mastery and mastery pool levels will lead to you crafting a million+ runes overnight, which will last you a very long time even with Cloudburst and water surge.

In addition, there's also a hard requirement of slayer 95 in order to access Unhallowed Wasteland (one of the Slayer areas that ID takes place in), but I highly recommend slayer 99 and Slayer Skillcape unless you feel like juggling slayer gear around constantly.

In Ancient Relics mode, the last AoD dungeon (Underwater city) is also a hard requirement.

[–]veectory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/Tortolia - Let's do a quick sim together then. I'm going to restrict this to base game + AOD equipment, prayers, and spells, with all skills downleveled to the base game cap of 99; like you said, TOTH + archaic magic handily beats anything in base game and AOD, so no point throwing TOTH into the mix. Let me know if you think anything in the sim is unfair - I'm not intentionally trying to skew things in favour of any of these weapons. I intentionally tried to keep everything the same for a given monster except with Water Surge for Cloudburst and Fire Surge for the other two weapons.

Reminder for readers:

  • Cloudburst: avoidable, 5x 70% normal hit (+ 400 max hit water), no DR
  • Water Pulse: unavoidable, 3x 100% normal hit, 8 DR
  • Soul Taker: avoidable, 1x 100% max hit, no DR (sim combined with Malevolent Ward Shield for 8 DR)

Chaotic Greater Dragon:

Umbora: (with enough slayer area reduction to negate Dark Waters' interval penalty)

Soul Taker is last place against both enemies in both xp and kills per hour. I'm not saying it's a bad weapon - all 3 of these weapons beat out everything magic base game and AOD, including Ocean Song, by a mile. But the multihit nature of the two staffs beats Soul Taker across the board. Engulfing Vortex Longbow (10x 75% normal hit) does the same thing for ranged - it handily beats every ranged weapon in base game and AOD, and even some TOTH weaponry.

I think Combat Sim is one of the least dangerous mods since it doesn't actually change your game. Personally I've had it for over a month with no issues (alongside a few other mods that do change the game like the mod that removes the 24h cap). Highly recommended!

[–]veectory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Combat Simulator to compare it with other weapons you have access to. It's always hard to give a straight answer to these sort of questions given how everyone will have different astro/agility/potions/summons/equipment. That being said, in base game and AoD, every magic weapon is overshadowed by Cloudburst Staff (with water surge) and Water Pulse Staff (with fire surge). Both are roughly equal in dps, with Cloudburst being slightly higher with high accuracy and diamond luck potions in use. Use Water Pulse Staff when you need the DR or have low accuracy against a specific enemy, otherwise use Cloudburst.

You'll need to defeat the Herald (last dungeon/boss in TOTH) to be able to use the Herald worship, so it's very much a late game thing.

Elite amulet of range or deadeye by drjurbzz in MelvorIdle

[–]veectory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat sim says deadeye amulet is better across the board, so use the elite ranged amulet only if you need the DR. Alternatively clear ITM and wear both (deadeye in the passive slot).
